Insight on installing Airbags over my BW Hitch
Insight on installing Airbags over my BW Hitch
Okay well I did it.
Got a used Big Horn, just put in my BW and now I am saving for some airbags.
Can I get a heads up on installing the mounting hardware for my bags in conjunction with my hitch plates on the outside of my frame?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chad

Here is a link to the install manual for our Air Lift kit, 57295 and 57297.
As others mentioned, the kit mounts in the same place as your bumpstops.
The manual should answer any questions you may have but I would be happy to assist if you have any other questions. I'm not positive specifically how the B&M hitches mount but I don't believe you will have any issues.

Go with the Firestone Air Bags and on board compressor and gauge. The air lift bags are about the same but their compressor looks like a tinker toy compared to the REAL compressor that Firestone sells.
Yes definately the firestone bags and the firestone compressor!! Running them for 3 years over 70000 miles not a problem. They went together very smoothly and I have the B&W turnover. You will love the on the fly adjustability with having the on board compressor. I rigged up two tanks for more volume, and 25ft of coiled air line because I haul livestock and nothing is worse than a flat tire in 0 degree weather. I am able to run a 1/2in impact easily not to mention my air/hyd 20 ton jack. Another benifit I like with on board air is when you are empty you can dial it back down to where it rides comfortably again in seconds. Not to mention the added stability. Nothing beats bags when you got a fifth wheel!!

We also offer the heavy duty compressor kits which uses a Viair compressor. This is the same type of compressor used as Firestone. This biggest difference is we allow the customer to choose what best suites their needs. For running air tools and tanks the light duty is clearly not going to cut it.
The heavy duty option from Air Lift is very comparable in price to the Firestone kit, and until the end of January we are actually offering an additional $100 rebate if you purchase a compressor kit and air bag kit.
We also offer wireless options which Firestone currently doesn't offer, this allowing you to adjust the load while actually looking at the truck conditions from the outside. Additionally, we sell compact sized gauges which make for easy mounting to a pillar pod or other locations versus a traditional flat panel which can be hard to make look right in an interior.
I apologize for somewhat hijacking your thread, I simply wanted to make sure that everyone understands what options are actually available.
This isnt a site to advertise on! The customers speak here so go buy some more ad space in a magazine!! We put the products thru the real test! Didnt want to start a fire with my first post but you buy a Air Lift system "like I did my first one","and my last" you spend more time with fabrication on the kit to make it work because IT IS NOT THE SAME AS WHAT WAS PICTURED but a universal kit. Have installed three different ones. One for myself and two for buddys all different vehicles but same on every kit! Wasnt just bolt on and go Slot this hole for bags to ride level! Go to bolt bin and use some graded hardware! Need bigger washers so corners of brakets dont fold over and cant get back off! The list goes on! Spend more time on testing and quality control than out here trying to sell junk! I mean u

You may be referring to our standard compressor kits, these compressors are inside of a black casing. These are very reliable and durable for the standard cost.

I inflate and deflate my air bags while looking at my load every time. My switch and gauge is mounted under my drivers seat. No need for a wireless remote to drop in the ankle deep mud on a rig site.
I like the under the seat idea. Do you ever have a need to adjust it while you are driving based on different road conditions? I assume if you do, you just go off of how the ride feels while you are adjusting, correct?
I'll have to remember that for people looking for an out of the way spot.

Pictures are worth a thousand words .....
I've got the Firestone bags, and while I don't have a problem with the bags I did with their dual needle gauge. I had 2 failures in 20 months so I switched to AirLift's WIRELESS Air system (remote and manifold) and it works great. Being able to walk around my truck and adjust my bags, all I can say is wow ..... it's just incredible.
Pro's
- No bag air in my truck cab
- No more issues with gauges or air lines inside the cab
- Walking around the truck and adjusting the bags
- Super easy install/integration into my air system
Con's
- Needs an electric valve to go between the manifold and my onboard air to prevent overpressurizing the bags
- User needs a firm understanding of onboard air/electrical systems to make it work
Trust me when I say you should do yourself a favor and just get the AirLift system.
