Help with definition - "Deleting"

I have read some of the stuff about deleting and seen a number of threads wherein deleting was mentioned. What exactly is it and does it really need to be done? I have a GMC 2500HD Duramax with Allison and always felt I had sufficient power for my uses. Are the newer diesels lacking in power or is this something that people do jazz up their vehicles?

Deleting is removing the DPF and EGR system for improvements in fuel economy, longevity, exhaust tones and such.

You dont have to delete, but the benefits are there. Your warranty is up for grabs if you do delete though.

My truck performed fine stock, but so much better with the additions, or should I say, subtractions as well.
