Egr
If you do the program delete and do not take the EGR valve off is the exhaust still going thru the EGR? Would like to get some opinions on the programers. I will be pulling a 40ft gooseneck with an average load of about 10,000lbs. Info on mileage improvement, exhaustbrake problems if any and anything else of help.
It's my understanding the programmer keeps the EGR valve closed at all times (and the intake butterfly valve is kept open). It's a dead-end, so yes the tube going from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold has exhaust gasses in it, but they're not going anywhere. Some say the EGR "could" leak into the intake, but there is a spring that keeps it closed, so I doubt much would get through. Main reason to remove all that stuff after a programmer is installed is just to clean up the look of the engine and shed some weight IMHO.

another reason to remove the cooler is they are known to crack internally and leak coolant into the motor. same symptoms as a blown headgasket
I can't think of a single reason to keep it on the truck, it's a butterfly valve and a butterfly valve is not air tight, they can also fail and break apart and where are those bits going to go? You could plug the crossover pipe but you still have a butterfly valve inches away from the intake.
