Under the bed, passenger side, outside the frame, mounted to the bottom of the bed is working great for me now. Can't wait to see how I'm going to upgrade when I get the EDC hooked up for air.

(Yeah, I finally found one ..... and I can't wait to get it installed!)

so we can expect a full picture write up? Looking forward to that one. I have been kicking around buying a new set of horns (possibly a couple). was crawling around the underside of the truck the other day and there sure is a lot of room under there compared to the mega. I was like HORN CENTRAL!! LOL

Oh yeah, I'll definately have a write up for it coming this summer .... most likely after the first week of August.

I priced out multiple compressors or a bigger single compressor with additional deep cycle or Group 31 upgrades, and I can't get the price down to what the EDC will cost me.

Now I know I've posted these before but there is a difference. You have air horn. I have train horns.

Nathan AirChime K3LA. I'm heard at a mile and a half with this one. 156db, 1/2 OD airlines with 170psi and 5 gallons and I get a solid 5 seconds of "get out of my way" noise.

Tank (foreground) and compressor (background)

To make the install easier you can use an electric valve but there is a bit of control lost with that. I have a manual valve so if I want a short sounding or lowered volume expression of frustration, it's a slight pull. For those that deserve it, you can fully pull the handle and well .....

I also have pictures of my K5LL pending approval, and those go on over the summer. These are similar sounding to Amtrak, CSX, or Norfolk Southern trains with a slightly deeper sound to them.

Just got these pics approved, so you can see exactly how big the K5LL is ....

This my my oldest .... he's 15 and just under 6 foot tall. We removed the bells from the manifold and started stripping them. The paint that was on them was such a heavy coat that it took me 6 cans of stripper to get this far.

This is before I took them off the manifold and began stripping the paint off them. I'm going to color match them to my '08 which is the Patriot Blue Pearlcoat.

LMAO!! It's a beast, isn't it? The K5LL is 154db but the tone is supposed to be much more deeper than the K3LA, which is 156db. At that level, you can't tell the 2db loss on the K5LL.

"The plan" is to weld up a custom mount that I can bolt to the frame and then mount the K5 to it. I still have some more prep work I need to do to paint them, but the self-etching primer and paint should be quick once I'm finished stripping them.

Most of the gear I have right now will be transplanted to the wife's truck, and "the plan" calls for a 10 to 12 gallon tank with 170psi of air. The EDC will do 14 CFM @ 0psi and 7 to 8 CFM @ 100psi, so fill time on a 5 gallon tank is approximately 2 minutes 20 seconds ..... so for 12 gallons I'm looking at 6 minutes from an empty tank.

Bingo .... EDC = engine driven compressor. This is for folks that like having onboard air for airing up tires after rock crawling or flats, and for those of us with air bags and/or air horns. Like Chris said, they're made to move a lot of air without all the wiring, larger alternator, and extra battery needed to run a DC powered compressor.

You can easily make one from an old Ford that has the York 210 A/C pump, but the versions you can buy from folks like Kilby's are rebuilt so that you don't end up with a lot of oil in the air tank. Kilby Enterprises EDC has a modified York 210 for the 3rd gen trucks ('03 to '06 only) while the one I'm looking at is based off the Sanden A/C pump and made for the 6.7L engines.

I could have sworn Kilby's was going out of business ..... sounds like he got lucky and sold the business before they shut down (good for him!).
