Calling espar and webasto experts

I had a espar on my 03 and loved it.Want to put one on the 2010 but I have been told by espar that they advise NOT to install one. They say the 2010 has a new computer and when starting cold it wants all the sensors reading the same temperature. When the engine is preheated this will cause the truck to through a fault code.

Anybody heard of this or anyone have one installed?

no, havent' heard this one yet. That is interesting though. I have an Espar and love it. That Edit you can't put one in. How bout a little ceramic heater on a timer placed on the centre console?. I did that for years till I sprung the cash for my Espar.

Interested to know how you make out.

Cheers

I have to believe espar (why would they NOT want to sell you a heater) but I'm curious as to how the computer handles it when you plug in the block heater??? I know the temp difference isn't near as big but it's there...

Went down to the the dealer today to see if i could learn anything should have known better(left more frustrated). They said the block heater is part of the system.

Does anyone know how to contact dodge about tech questions? I really want my heater.

Who did you talk to about purchasing an Espar? Did you try Cummins? I deal there when I can but I wouldn't call them genius either.
This to me sounds a little silly. The response you got is similar to what I have received from Dodge City where I bought my truck from. Did you try talking to the service manager?
You might try talking to the big truck dealers in 'Stoon to get their idea on this.

I started asking questions when I did not see a kit for a 2010. I had one on my 2003 and loved it and want one on the 2010.

I asked espar the question, I copied their response below.

Hello Rob,

We do not have such kit. Furthermore, on my information, diesel Dodge 2010 has a new computer which can not properly handle a situation when engine is started being pre-warmed after being stopped for several hours. In this situation the new computer is expecting for all sensors to read the same temperature which is not true if engine preheat which causes a fault code in the computer.

We do not recommend installing heater on Dodge 2010 until manufacturer issues a fix for the computer firmware.

Best regards,

Alexey Konyshev

I still don't understand why it can't work code free. It really isn't that much different than plugging in the truck except all of the coolant and interior are much closer to being the same temperature. I had one on my '06 and was considering putting one on the new truck. I guess I'll wait until these issues are resolved.

Well, thats absolutely insane!!! You can't install a good coolant heater, you can't let the trucks idle, you can't drive them slow in town...

you can't, you can't, you can't... please correct me if I'm wrong, but these trucks were built to work right? Not everyone drives their truck on the highway all day, some people work these things intown. (thank goodness my emission system fell off due to the rough roads here)

One thing that will help your vehicle lots is the under hood winter front from Dodge. It wraps the whole front under the hood and keeps things nice and toasty warm. It is p/n 82208646. When you go talk to them, they will have NO CLUE until they punch in that number.

Isn't their a factory option for a pre-heater? I know there was for some years after 2003 or so. I think I read it was made by Espar.

After talking with my parts guy today, apparently with the new computer in the 4th Gens, the Espar currently can't make the interior fan operate so it would be like a expensive engine heater only. Apparently Espar is working on a module so it can interface but there is no ETA on this product, so it looks like it'll be a while before we can have this heater function properly.

Espar

Anyone have any new information regarding putting a Espar heater in the new trucks? I have been trying to get in touch with a local company here that installs them with no luck. Guess they are too busy to take my business as all of my calls have gone unanswered.

I would love to install one of these in my truck - the winters here are brutal on trucks....-39C here again this morning and even plugged in the truck squealed on me

Guess I will have to go south to get work done - hopefully a solution has been found!

Thanks
S
