arp head studs or no?
hey fellas, im pondering the thought of getting arp head studs. do i really need them? im running a a race me pro with 4" exhaust and cia. i dont do any heavy hauling and im only running 60 extra hp on the race me pro. to be truthfull i rarely ever get on it. should i invest in studs or save my money. if i need them how hard are they install or what would a fair price be letting a shop install them? thanks for any helpful advice

Honestly, you do not need them. I've been running on the hot setting on my Black Maxx since I got it a couple years ago and about 50K+ miles. I've ran my truck pretty hard on multiple occasions and have never lifted the head. I do have it set to defuel at 28psi but it has spiked up to 38psi. There are others on here without ARP that have their defuel set in the 30s and haven't had issues.
I do oil analysis every 7500 miles which confirms my engine still runs strong and no coolant in the oil. I now have over 78K miles on her.

With what the OP is planning, head studs are not necessary. I now have over 81K miles on my truck with stock head bolts and at times, I am not easy on the peddle. Yes it is good insurance, but not entirely necessary. I have oil analysis to back up my claims. As long as I stay with the stock bolts, my defuel stays at 28psi.
To the OP, go with your gut feeling. Lots of good opinions out there. Ultimately it all depends on your budget and what you really plan on doing. If you have the cash, throwing in a set of ARP 625s won't hurt a thing, heck you will probably fair just fine with the 425s.

The chances are minimal especially with what the OP is trying to do. So stop trying to put fear into people that simply want to gain a little performance and MPG as well as cleaner oil. I have over 81K miles now on my truck and I still have NOT lifted the head. There are many others on this forum and others that run stock head bolts and haven't lifted the head. Doing the mods such as what you have done to your truck then studs are a must.

My 2011 has the factory head bolts still and it only tows up to 14,000lbs on mild with boost defuel set at 36psi which is apparently the stock factory limit, a retorque of the bolts is a good idea with a torque increase. No plans for studs and if I do blow the head gasket I would still stay with bolts as it makes any maintenance easier.

A buddy just had his 10 blow his head gasket. Deleted w/ H&S on mild. He tows a little. 6spd truck. My mechanic says he's done a lot of 6.7 head gaskets. I'd do studs for piece of mind.
