Tranny Temps

Hey guys, what Transmission temps are you seeing under Heavy loads with you new autos? Mine hit 230 today pulling about 2500 gross. My old 04 did that all the time, but my 11 has done better untill today. It was about 90 here also. Any thought on Aux coolers?

My normal trans temps when pulling my 5er is around 180F in the pan at 90F ambient.
I do have a Mag-Hytec pan and extra oil in it.

Was that 230 at highway speeds? I've never seen anywhere close to that on the highway. Intown I regularly see 190ish, but highway drops to 150-160 pretty quick.

5th wheel weighs in right at about 9000 loaded and i have never seen above 185. The 185 i saw was on about a mile and half preety steep grade too.

I would think 2500 pounds wouldnt have any effect at all on trans temp.

Do you use tow haul?

I have only towed a 21' Travel Trailer from NC to FL and with cruise control set at 73mph I saw no greater than 200 for the entire trip.

Towing 8000 lbs I only see around 170 degrees. Haven't towed in this extreme heat yet, 102 today.

I mean't to say 25000 pounds gross. No the speeds were not that fast(local county roads) pulling around a 32' goose neck hauling water for my sprayer. Converter showed locked most of the time on the mini max. I might look into the bigger pan. My 04 would do this regularly, but the tranny is still fine it so I don't know, maybe I am just worring over nothing.

Just got back from a 2 week road trip partly in the Canadian Rockies. My 5ver is 13900lbs but probably around 13000lbs on this trip. Using tow/haul going up the passes at 65-75MPH trans temp was consistently 67-68C deg, OAT 15C.(59F) I was monitoring it as this was its first trip. (68C is 154F)

I will get close to 190 not towing anything on a hot day. Is this normal? Usually around 120-160 on every day driving.

I can't address the 68RE trannys. Don't have one. But in your case, I see the same on hot days when not towing. Good news is when towing its about the same. 96 outside towing at 60 mph is about 189-190. If I push it up to 65 it will go to 203-208 if I don't slow down.

In town 190-195 stop and start with an occassional 205. Change the tranny fluid more often and you'll be OK.

Before I changed the torque converter I would see 205 all the time towing.

What was the tempature difference running your truck with the Mag-Hytec pan, are you happy with it, I was thinking of buying one, lower heat is a good thing.
Thanks
Steve
