Test Drive
Test Drive
I went to the local dealer yesterday and looked at some trucks and got to test drive a new truck, I did like the ride of the truck and the feel of it, it was a Mega Cab 4x4 Laramie Hi Output. What I did not like was the sales lady trying to push a truck on me and push a deal when I am not ready to buy at this time, they did not have many on the lot to look at either, I will not be back at that dealer again.
I also went and looked at the new fords the other day and test drove one and I was impressed with it, I think ford got it right with this engine/tranny combo. I was treated good at the Ford Dealer, not pushy or in a hurry to do things and they understood when I told them I was in the shopping phase and looking to get in a new truck in a few months. Is Dodge/ Ram Trucks in a bad spot that they have to do this to people, I wonder about this. I do not do business like this, it is bad business practice on their part. I prefer the Cummins as I am on my second truck now but now I am wondering.

I have noticed when I go shopping it is usually the young slaesman new to the game that are pushy to get a sale regardless of the dealership. It turns me off to a sale too. The experienced salesmen know that if you want a product you will be back for it in time and will usually get the sale eventually. I am a Cummins man becasue of the reliability and the ease of maintenace on the engie. Open the hood of a Ford or Chevy and you cant stick your hand anywhere.
One of my favorites. My truck was at the dealership for some servicing. I was walking around the lot and was looking at a 1500 Laramie Longhorn (first one I've ever seen). Salesman comes over and makes some small talk and is trying to get me to test drive it. Instead, I tell him that I'd like to test drive a 2500 4x4 Hemi. He asks if I'm looking at buying soon. I tell him no, that I'm trying to figure out which truck I want. So, he then tells me that they are busy with customer appointments and proceeds to give me his card and walks away. I kept his car, only to remember who this piece of work was. Thing is, if he was accommodating, I would have had no reason not to buy a truck from him. His loss. By the way, this was in the morning during the week and there were not any other customers around.
I am a Cummins Guy and want to stay with a Ram Truck, I am also looking at the others to be fair. I will also look at other dealers, I do not just stay with one, which ever gives me the best deal will get my busines even if I have to go out of state which I have done before.
I wouldn't hold the behavior of one salesman against the brand, or even against that dealership. I've had a Ram salesman that would have pulled every set of keys so I could drive every truck on the lot, even though I told him I wasn't buying soon. And I've had others that were pushy and would tell any lie necessary to get me to their desk. But this seems true of all of the brands that I've shopped in my life.

You should call Dave Smiths in Kellogg, ID. Traded my 08 MC (Hemi) for the truck I have now. That was the best buying experience I've ever had at a dealership. I heard they will even fly you out if you don't have a trade-in.
I'll be going back to them if I were to buy new again.

I have to agree with 6.7L MegaCab, I bought from them too and it was the best experience I have ever had. They trucked mine to Bellingham for free to be put on a container ship, they also gave me the option to have them pay for a plane ticket to come get it in person, and from Alaska thats about $700.
Their a wholesaler, they don't need to be pushy, they are gonna give you the best deal around. I would do it again if i had to, but I love my 2011 HO.

nolafishr, I run a Ford and love it, but there's nothing wrong with the new Rams. Had the completely different experience test driving a Cummins the other weekend. Guy checked the fuel gauge and said have it back by 2:30 (this is like 11 am). Told him upfront we wanted a Laramie stick which they didn't have and he didn't try pushing the Big Horn we drove on us. That dealer will get my business when we're looking to get one.
If your little feelers are hurt from a little pressure from a sales person and you're now considering a ford as a result thereof then by all means go buy the Ford. We need more steadfast men with tenacity in the Dodge camp.
