Suggestions on swapping out a open rear differential
Old time member with a new to me truck.
Well after driving in the first significant snow of the year and checking my truck’s options and window sticker I’ve come to the shocking realization that my 2016 Laramie 2500 diesel Ram 4x4 has an open rear differential.
The truck has about every possible option so I assumed it had a limited slip rear end.
I’m shocked they would even build a heavy duty diesel truck with an open rear diff but the truck is from down south so maybe it’s not that much of a priority.
Driving in the snow with an open diff is almost impossible in 2wd.
I believe my 2500 truck has the 11.5 rear end and I think the factory limited slip differentials are the helical type.
So I’m leaning towards the factory type helical limited slip diff unless they have known issues?
I have no desire to take the truck off road and don’t need any type of manually operated locker differential nor do I want a super heavy duty diff that pops, creeks and clunks going around corners.
I just need a decent limited slip differential that works good and is quiet.
Also when installing a LSD diff is there anything else needed to get it to properly work with traction and stability control? Any computer re-flash needed?
