Spraying oil
Spraying oil
Hi all. I’m hoping somebody has some ideas about a current issue I had with my new 2500 diesel (4K miles).
short version: -15 f drove about 40 miles and got low oil pressure light. Let it sit for a while then no light. On way home light on again. Got it in the garage and let it cool off.
opened hood and found the entire inside covered with oil. Replaced several quarts and started right up no problem. Thought to call dealer before I brought it to them and they advised that it be towed.
They couldn’t find any leak (they drove it 25 miles and then let it idle for 2 hours) so added dye to the oil and sent me on my way.
The only thing that I thought was unusual was that it didn’t seem that the oil dipstick was properly seated when I removed it to check oil level. One of the dealer mechanics said it was possible that the oil ejected out the tube, another said absolutely not possible.
So what am I missing here? Seems to me it’s a pretty significant event but I got a casual response.
I’ll be returning for an oil change later this week, as long as it doesn’t blow oil again, so would appreciate your input.

Hey Jake, sorry to hear you are having issues so early with your RAM.
I would contact Blackstone and request a free test kit (click their link for kit) and when you get the oil changed, ask them to fill the sample container with the oil. Send the sample back to Blackstone for analysis (about $30). That report should give you a very good idea if there was any damage done.
Carry oil with you until your next change. Next time the light goes on, pull over and stop immediately. It doesn't take long to kill a Cummins with no oil.
Welcome to DTR, back to morning brew . . .
