If there was a filter failure and it did damage the motor and your warranty was denied then you could sue wix for a bad filter.

Its a synthetic blend, and is in between the OEM and the Stratapore, the Stratapore is fully synthetic and has better filtration.

Excatly, if they require a specific brand they have to legally furnish it.
On the Wix Filter part NO. 557620XE, according to the article in Turbo Diesel Register, issue 71, on page 67. The author states that this is a full synthetic filter. The author has several charts on filters and he states that the WIX filter part NO. 557620XE, and the Fleetgaurd Strataphore filter part NO. LF16035, are the only two full synthetic filters that he tested.
Who is correct?

557620XE is an old part number, the current part number is 57620XE. According to Wix the filter is paper/glass. Wix actually calls it "glass enhanced cellulose", so its not a synthetic blend either and I edited my previous post.

It's not the first time, and wont be the last that authors don't do their research properly and put stuff in writing, its why you have to do your own research.

The 57620XE is almost half as efficient as the Donaldson ELF7349/Amsoil EaO80, and is also full synthetic.

On my truck the only 2 filters I would run are the Amsoil/Donaldson and the Stratapore.

I haven't received my TDR issue 71 yet, so I couldn't read it.. But it's now up on TDR so I am reading the article. So far here are some issues I have found.

J1985 is not a pressure drop test, it’s a single pass fuel filter efficiency test. But that's not a big deal.

I am very surprised that he did not cover any micron ratings or dirt holding capacity. He talks a little about microns in the next article, but not in the oil filter article, where it’s important.

His next article then goes to state that the OEM filter is 40um, which its actually rated at 35um and that the Stratapore is 25um and the best in the industry, well that's a very false statement. The Purolator Pure One and the Amsoil Eao80/Donaldson ELF7349 are all rated at 15um absolute. The Pureone is not an extended interval filter, but has the same ratings.

Quite a frustrating read.

Just because I wondered, I called 5 Dodge dealers, and talked to a service dept person.
I asked if it was okay to use a Wix oil filter, on a dodge diesel, or if it could void my warranty.
All 5 said it was fine to use Wix, 3 just added it needed to be changed at the interval mentioned in the owners manual, not to try and run it longer like some people do.
Then one guy told me a story.
An upset customer had a worn out motor and wanted it replaced or rebuilt under warranty.
The truck was 6 years old, and had not had an oil change in the past 3 years.
He was denied warranty, and very upset about it.
Said he used synthetic oil, and was told it was good for the lifetime of his engine....lol
Some people are slightly insane.

Wow, the Pure One has the same rating as the EA080? That makes it a bargain filter, at least buying it at Sears rather than the overpriced auto parts stores. Sears sells the Pure One for the Cummins for $9.99. That's cheaper than the Mopar filter at Wally's.

Where did you get your rating info for the Pure One? I bought a Baldwin BT7349 to try for the first time and it was less than $7.

So, does this mean the Pure One is all that...especially at $9.99?

The pureone ratings are on their website.

You can get the Donaldson for $12ish online.

It lasted as long as his engine, didn't it?
