Help for a newbie...take 2
So I posted this in the General forum and someone told me I may get a better response here so here goes...
I am looking into getting my first diesel truck, more than likely a 4th Gen RAM 2500, is there anything i should know about the 4th gen rams, or diesel trucks in general? I work in the Oil and Natural Gas fields, and my company has a few diesels in its fleet, (all fords, and if im not mistaken, they are all 6.0L). As well, Ive heard the automatic transmissions in the rams are little better than junk...is this true? If so, is the same true for a stick shift?
As well, as far as mods go i know i want a slight lift and bigger tires, id like to get a tuner (i was told the banks iq was really good) but it will be tuned towards fuel efficiency (yes, i do realize that i will be shooting my mileage in the face with bigger tires and a lift, but im hoping that since the lift and tires wont be anything extreme, it wont be too bad, but i do a lot of driving on back country roads in west virginia, so its kind of a necessity) other than that the only other mods ive thought of were a few gauges to help me keep a better eye on things...One last thing, i do plan on using my truck as a daily driver, with short and long trips. and it will rarely tow, and even when it does it will be light stuff. Thanks

Don't buy anything until you have read some of the threads on here. Based on what you have told us so far the best advice I would give is to buy an F150 gas truck and save your money. These new diesels don't work if you use it as a daily driver without working it hard and let it idle to heat up and cool off the insides. The auto's are just ok but the manual trans is de-rated because the clutch can't take ANY additional power so it you want a tuner you also need a double disc clutch.
