F/R Diff Fluid

I want to change my front and rear differential fluid on
my 2011 2500. What weight, how much, how to fill it?

Here is a site that provides fluid capacities and type of fluid for your 2500.
http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/vehic...=2011+RAM+2500 PICKUP+L
You will need a funnel to fill up the differential with the standard cover.

If you buy the amsoil stuff they also sell a pump that screws onto the bottles for about 15 bucks

I read a lot of people take the cover off to get it all out.
Any specific weight?

I removed the cover and cleaned out the pumpkin. There was fine metal shavings and some machining debris in the pumpkin on the bottom when I did mine. This was to be expected, that is why it is so important to do the first oil change on time. I also checked for the gear pattern on the ring gear and pinion for even wear.
Now as far as oil weight this depends on what you are planning on doing with the truck. Will you be hauling, towing an such; then I would use as a minimum, Sever Gear 75W-110 synthetic oil. Some owners have been using Sever Gear 75W-140, this oil is for extreme use such as towing 8 to 10 hours a day, 6 days a week and 50 weeks a year.

Can I reuse the gasket after I take the cover off?
Is there a sequence when tightning the bolts?

Yes the gasket is re-useable on the AAM axles. I always do a cross sequence when putting my bolts back in.

I just did mine, I'm using 75W90 castro full synthenic, seems to work good. Been using that stuff in my older truck for years now. I also threw on a mag-tech transmission pan to speed up oil servicing.

I got 40000 miles without the oil getting dirty in the diffs/T-case/RFE68

Don't over-torque the cover bolts, apparently the heads snap off quite easily. On my 3rd gen it was 30-ft-lbs, which isn't a lot. Guessing it's the same for the new trucks.

Just a tip that I learned a while back, since I wind up doing this job on our jeeps and the truck: when I take the cover off, I use a can of carb cleaner and spray the snot out of the inside of the center section, then let it drain out and even use a rag to get it all out. It helps remove the aforementioned metal shavings and evaporates so it doesn't leave a residue. Good stuff!

The AAM diff gaskets are reusable, but I just used locite "just right" on mine. No leaks so far.
