Regeneration is the using of extra fuel to burn off the soot in the DPF on DPF equipped trucks. This is done when the DPF, is at a set level of soot that has been collected from the exhaust. The truck will go into Regen and the EGT's can reach as high as 1450F to burn off the soot for 20 Min's or more when driving.
This is the short take on the process.There is more info on this process but that will take a booklet to inform you on the who process.

Been done, but I assume you know that!
Not terribly difficult! If unaware....do a search!

I'll admit I'm ready to switch back to an automatic, now that the 68RFE is here and seems to be holding up. I do like my G56 quite a bit, but the aftermarket clutch makes towing heavy with it annoying, since it's so grabby. Primarily, starting from a standstill.

I figure the 68RFE with 4.10s would be a great combo for towing a big 5er like mine (17k lbs). And having 6th gear would finally make unloaded cruising bearable.

BUT, as I said in another thread, there really isn't enough in the new trucks to motivate me to move on one yet. Maybe in a couple more years.

Anyone know the ratio of the highest gear (5th?) in the 68RFE.

I was told the ratios are:

2 = 1.84
3 = 1.41
4 = 1.00
5 = .82
6 = .63

so 5th and 6th are "overdrive" ratios

So it is SIX forward gears? I was assuming five and reverse.
But top gear listed above is same as on my 47RE. Having a 3.73 rear end, I might have expected a bit taller.

With 35" street tires I love my 2000 rpm at 80 mph for Hwy driving and long trips.
(35's change my rear end from 3.55 to 3.35).
Great for every kind of driving ...... except towing over 10,000 lbs.

With stock tires on a dually, 235/80R17E, what is the RPM at 70 mph w/ the 4.10? With the 3.73?
Just about to pull the trigger on a 2010 3500 dually. Trying to finalize my decision.
Thanks.

You shouldn't be concerned about the RPM. You should be more concerned about how you are going to use the truck. If you are going to tow heavy the 4.10 gears will put the least amount of strain on the tranny. If you tow light or get groceries, get the 3.73 gears. If you are going to put big mudders on it, get the 4.10 gears.
