Another front driveshaft greasing question

Well after searching for at least 30 min. I finally found the point where I need to grease the front drive shaft. My main mistake was just looking on the u-joints themselves for something to grease.
Anyway my question to anyone who has greased their own is do you use the needle style adapter where the needle goes into the small grease hole or do you use the larger adapter which you press against the outside? One post that I read said the problem with the small needle style is that grease will not be "forced" into the the joint and it will just come back out from around the needle instead.
Also what type of grease do you use. Dodge says lithium base grease. Can I just use a good quality grease?
Thanks

I've used both but I prefer the needle style, much easier to get grease into the trunion with that one. Just make sure there is no mud or dirt on grease fitting first.

I was just concerned that grease was getting into where it was suppose get too in the cardon joint before it pushed back out around the needle.
And I always do clean my grease fittings before and after greasing...keeps dirt from entering the fitting and keeps everything clean and neat.

Both pics are needle style. Fat one or thin one?

The thin one, hardest part was removing it from my grease gun but that one does work better.

Yes, I prefer the thin one too, then just lever it out of the gun after with my side cutters.

Is there a danger of jamming the "ball" detent (not sure what the proper name is) on the driveshaft using the thin one?

I've always been gentle and never had a problem, but I'd imagine it could happen.
