6.7 Lost Oil

Oil was dropped to change and someone else jumped in and drove 2 miles before realizing it had no oil. shut down but too late, it seized enough to barely turn over. Anyone had one apart after loss of oil? It was cold when he took it. What most likely effected? Rods and Mains first Im guessing? but what else? Turbo?

Usually not much last very long with no oil in a diesel engine... Hopefully it was the dealer or a shop that did it, and they stand by a rebuild...

Ya too bad it wasn't a dealer thing but this is what makes me mad. The Oil waning light came on with that single tone beep same as the oil change reminder but no other alert no shutdown or limp mode. The guy that jumped in it didnt even notice the light. The seat belt minder makes way more noise and actually covers up the tone meant to warn against low oil pressure. I just cant imagine that all the technology to warn us about safety features like doors and belts and low DEF level that there is no automated shutdown feature for low oil pressure. Pretty sure my last Ford did because it would sometimes die if it took longer than normal to build oil pressure after an oil change and I would have to restart.

That's about $15k for reman 6.7 and does not include turbo. Call insurance company before doing anything else it maybe covered.

The injectors on your last Ford were driven by oil pressure. Has saved many an engine I'm sure.

Ouch!!! Atleast someone else jumped in and drove it away. I know a guy that pulled a leaking radiator out of his service truck. After pulling the radiator he closed the hood, jumped in and tried to drive to town for dinner

Even my lawn mower has a low oil shut down switch. If it falls below the "add" mark on the dipstick, it won't start.

I have a spare 6.7L engine sitting in my garage.

I bet that the main and rod bearings are spun. Might have a few oversized rods, as the rod from a CR is junk. The cam/tappets might be whipped. A lot will depend on how much oil was left over inside the engine and how long the engine was run. The rockers/guides might be ok, if you didn't run the engine to long. The turbo might be ok, would have to check for wear. Holset turbos use bushing and are pretty forgiving.

On that used engine, I would pull the air intake off and take a peek inside. My brother bought a used 05 duramax engine with less than 100000 miles on it. I ripped the engine apart and seen tons of wear indicating way way more mileage than what the wrecker indicated (I would guess that engine was over 600000 miles). The both heads was shot, the engine need to be bored over.

Were do you live? If you live nearby, I could help your with your rebuild. I probably done a dozen or so CR 5.9L engines last year and a few 6.7L's

I always use 12v rods and replace the CR stock crap.
