truck with def work the same as truck without def......the only difference is truck with def require about 16% of egr recirculation....the truck without def(cummins6.7 and new navistar max force)need around 30% of egr recirculation to pass the emission regulation.....
wich is better????????
the new JCB (backoe)run with a motor without dpf and meet the new tier5 law
just do a little search on the net!!!!!!!!

On the 2011 Ford the exhaust fluid light comes on at 800 miles to empty, so you should have plenty of time to get some def thawed out.

I hated the idea of DEF to begin with. I have been getting around 19 mpg with out 2011 F350 empty and 10 to 10.5 pulling. The truck runs so good I have lost interest in doing a delete on it.

I only have 220 miles on my 2012 Dodge so far it shows 11 mpg and I know it has done 1 regen. Now I remember why I deleted my 2010 dodge

My understanding is that the DEF replaces the use of diesel to heat up the DPF during a regen so the vehicle fuel mileage is better. If the DEF is cheaper than diesel fuel then that's a good thing.

Nope, DEF is not even flammable.

DFE ia actually Urea. This is a mix of ammonia and water. See the attached link.http://www.cumminsfiltration.com/htm...sion/urea.html

Yeah I'm with Jim W on this about meeting the 2010 standards. They are just probably trying to get rid of some of the egr.

If they can get down to the 16% or whatever as someone above suggested I bet they do it like the 5.9 third gen trucks with an in combustion chamber effect.

Add the fluid and get rid of the egr all together would be nice. That way all your junk is in one spot and you can clean up the engine bay some.

Reading the threads on the 4th gen are depressing. Things are supposed to get better, not worse. I better hope nothing happens to my 03. You really don't see that many new diesels here and now I am seeing why.

Who said things were going to get better??

BTW, going to SCR/DEF, if done correctly, would be a huge step in going the right direction

I don't think egr is going away...they are just adding urea to the mix.

Exactly....but it should take LESS EGR to meet emissions with SCR

And the delete threads and posts just keep coming. I don't remember this much of a mess back in 03 when mine was new. Like I have said before, I will not spend 50K on a new truck that I have to mod and brake smog laws just to make it run right, especially as a short run DD. I say we boycott them all till they get it right, would only take a few months before they get the message. They are never going to get it right if we keep fixing their mistakes.

Imagine how you would feel if you paid over $70,000 for it.

I would not be able to feel anything, just numb all over. The independent and dealer diesel mechanics have got to see job security in their future with the new ones.

LOL ain't that the truth.

The chassis cabs currently use def. Dodge engineers said they wanted to change over the regular trucks to def too because they get MORE POWER from the same amount of fuel. OTR truckers like the better mileage and power using def in the big rigs.

Less egr is better. Remember egr is sending exhaust back into the next compression stroke to cool the fire. BAD

Dodge/Cummins needs to address the mileage issue. They are last in most power/towing comparisons while getting the worst mileage. What the heck happened?
