2013 with Aisin traction control.

As I mentioned previously it can be turned totally off but comes back on if you exceed 40mph, the truck is the same empty or towing but when towing and it does it the trailer is then pushing the truck. We are still holding out for a H&S fix as the truck just won't do what he needs it to do without being deleted so we are hoping for a way to totally turn off the traction control in the programmer like on his 2011 manual trans.

automatic traction control on any vehicle should be an option.. then you could buy the vehicle the way you want it . my car has it ,but i turn it off when the road gets slick ....i wonder if it's mandated like the tire pressure monitors?

here is a little info....."Stability control is mandated, so all of the others are included. ABS is part of stability control. As is traction control, TPMS, brake assist, Rollover Mitigation, etc.

Backup sensors are also mandated."

When was this mandate enacted? My 2012 does not have TPMS. Also, when I turn off the traction control, it stays off regardless of speed. If I shift the transfer case it comes back on and has to be turned off again.

It looks like unfortunately the traction control comes with the Aisin tranny, whereas the manual tranny gives the option to add(or not) traction control. Hopefully Ram, offers a reflash or something to change the parameters of when this traction control kicks in.

I bought my 2013 4500 in the beginning of November. I have put 16,000 miles on it thru some of the most awful places I don't ever want to be again. First stop on my Midwest misery tour was western Minnesota end of November, snow, snow, and don't think they like snow plows in that area or can't afford them, not sure. Four days up in that part and saw two I think. Next stop middle Missouri, snow storm, ice, snow covered highways. Then north western Illinois for freezing rain and snow. Off for Christmas and New Year in warm Tennessee. After break, back to Misery for more snow and cold. Off to Indiana, snow storms, snow, snow, sub zero temperatures, unplowed highways. Moved to Illinois, sub zero temps, snow covered highways, ice....did I say snow? Moved to Minnesota, great, blizzard as I leave Iowa and enter Minnesota, blizzard to Minneapolis, snow on the highways for 4 days. After the blizzard it was freezing rain, more sub zero temperatures. Drug up off that job and won't be going back.


In all of that mileage and absolutely lovely weather not one issue or concern with my traction control. I would turn it off when entering a large parking lot like Walmart so we could do some drifting. On side streets I could goose the throttle and put the truck sideways and traction control was awesome in helping bring her back around. A lot better than the old 1977 T-bird I grew up driving in Western New York in the same or worse conditions.


I did notice that going down snow covered roads that the truck would feel like the backend was getting loose. I blame the awesome 19.5 inch p.o.s Continental tires, well, the awful selection of tires in general in that size when it comes to snow, mud and ice. The truck weighs 14000 pounds as it sits so spinning is rare and have not noticed any derating if the tires slip on dirt. All in all and with plenty of snow driving experience being a WNY Yankee I had no issues with the truck on snow, gravel, ice other than what is normal in that hideous white junk.


My red 2002 dodge 1 ton at 60 miles per hour on a gravel road was loose and you could feel the back end moving around. No traction control on that truck and it weighed 11,000 pounds, lots of weight in the bed, all the stuff on the back of my truck in my gallery on a 3500. Traveled one up in Illinois that was straight as a pin for several miles and we were having fun kicking up a huge dust cloud but the truck would just get loose at those speeds. 60mph on a gravel road hauling a trailer might not be a traction control issue but a maybe I'm driving to fast issue. Just my .02 though.


Or I could have the only 2013 without a problem

Thanks for the info Weldin! Good to know, sounds like I don't need to worry too much about this traction control. I won't be hauling as much weight as you on the back of the truck consistently, but, I usually don't drive like an idiot when it's gnarly out.

Here's the kind of snow volume I drive in where I live. It's a two story house.
