Hey guys
Can anyone tell me at what transmission temp does the alarm go off?
My trannys been heating up on steep but fairly quick hills. Thinking I need to replace filter and fluid. It hit 239 deg. today towing a heavy trailer up a hill. Steep but only a half mile long and it takes quite some time to cool down.

Have the same year truck/tranny as you do. Can't answer your question re: the tranny temp alarm but something doesn't sound right. I've never seen above 191 on the EVIC, and that was in stop and go traffic in Mesa, AZ, in October pulling a 15k fiver. I rarely see above 175 while towing. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I can only tell you what my experience has been.

Filter and fluid shouldn't cause trans to overheat. Most likely blockage of trans cooler or restriction in cooler lines. You could also have a torque convertor problem. Engine cooling fan coming on? Does engine temp run hot also?

In May last year, we pulled the Weekend Warrior up to the mountains in Kettle Falls, Washington (from Vegas) to visit friends. It was our first long haul with it, 150 gallons of water (intentional to see how the truck/trailer would do), plus food, gear, etc for a family of 6. The transmission did great. About a 1/2 mile into the narrow, steep dirt mountain road going up to our friends house, the transmission starting hitting temps above 200. By the end of the 2 mile trek, the temps hit 243 degrees.
Not sure if it's normal for temps to get that high, but I can understand why. The torque converter won't lock in first gear. After we got settled, we made a trip or two to the bottom of the mountain with just the truck. No issues were noticed with the transmission. On our long haul back to Vegas, same thing. Normal temps and no issues. I've checked the fluid a few times since then and it is still red and doesn't smell burned.
