Well from what i understand the early g56s had a lower first gear than the newer ones do. Maybe those transmissions with first gear marked L have a lower first gear. The 2010 trucks that i have seen with 3.42s have the L and the trucks with 3.73s have the 1.

Well my dad's 06 has the lower 1st, and a "1"

I also don't understand the 1 vs L on 3.42 vs 3.73... You would think its the 3.73's that have "L" as the overall ratio is lower than a 3.42 with a "L"...

Some trucks come with the Getrag 56 which has the L-6 and some use the NV5600 which have 1-6.

It seems to be pretty darn random at best.

My '06 has the L, 09-'05 buld date.

I'm sure it was just random, whatever shift **** was in the bin is what got stuck on your truck.

Or perhaps different plants where they were built? I'm pretty sure mine came from the Satillo plant.

One thing I would bet money on is that the L or 1 on your shift **** has absolutely nothing to do with your transmission.

I'ts just a ****.

My 06 was built in early March 06, and has a L for first gear. I put a new transmission in last fall with a build date of October of 09. First gear is the same on both transmissions only 6th is different.

The only gear that I feel a differance is on 6th but I guess the #'s don't lie.

It is strange that on the 2010 that some trucks have a L and some have 1??
