48re leaking.

My truck has about 22,000 miles on it now('06) and I just noticed red fluid leaking out of the inspection cover on the transmission bellhousing. It's not a bad leak but a leak none the less. Anyone else have a leak like this? What ended up being the culprit?
Guess I'll be going to the dealer for the first time on Monday.

Figured out what was leaking. After pulling the inspection cover on the bell housing there was no oil inside so I cleaned off the whole area really well. This morning before I left for work there was once again a little drip from the bell housing, I traced the trickle up to this hose clamp on the passenger side of the engine...

...that line goes along the engine block and up to what looks like a pump on the drive belt? Anyone know what that line is for?

That looks like the famous coolant line that leaks on all the 06's. If it's near the turbo, that's the one. Loosen and re-set the clamps at a different rotation, tighten and check coolant level. All should be well after that.

Ah, thank you.
After ASSuming it was tranny fluid(since it was reddish) I searched for "transmission leaks". Now after searching "coolant leaks" I see that I'm not the only one to have the problem.
Anyways, hose clamp tightened, problem solved(for now).

Add clamps to your return hose from the overflow bottle at both ends as well!

I had the same exact thing happen on mine. It was under warranty at the time so back to the dealer it went for a "transmision leak". Turns out it was a coolant line towards the back of the engine, but I had forgotten that the coolant was also red..ooopps

You all aren't going to beleive this, but I went out and looked at my 06 and guess what, it's leaking a ten in. puddle. Dodge just did the cooling system 30000 mi. flush and fill last week. Nice work!

I assumed like you that this was a tranny overflow leak... I will go and double check.

Yep, this was just confirmed on my '06 today by the dealer too.

I saw a leak under the truck last week and thought it looked like a tranny leak. I had a couple of other minor issues...all leaks ... that needed repaired (1 leaking cab light lens and a leaky 3rd brake light in the tailgate.) and so I took it in. Mine didn't have loose clamps though, it actually had a pinhole leak, so they replaced the whole hose. Same with my tailgate brake light.

How ironic. I just had exact same issue yesterday. Got in truck to take kids somewhere and noticed a puddle under the truck. Looked reddish and I thought it was a transmission leak. I guess I will have to check that hose tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

Think I have the same problem too. I have a mess around my inspectioncover as well. Did you guys...I checked it at night and did notice the fluid was coming from the front of the bell housing and running down.

^^ on mine, that's exactly what it was doing. It's a coolant leak.

thank god you guys posed this thread. this morning I started my truck & after a warmup, I went to the store to buy some filters. Came back & the garage had a 15ft long leak of what looked like tranny fluid-or diesel.(I couldn't tell the color, only by feel. Looking thru it all after searching in here, it turned out to be coolant that looked like it was leaking from the inspection cover on the tranny. Long story short, I think its the same leak these guys were having.
I am booking the truck into the shop for wednesday but thanks to DTR, I don't have to get them to trouble shoot the transmission.

THANKS DTR,
