Yet another Free Wheeling Axle conversion kit!!!

Hold the presses!

I just tried to order a Spyntec kit for my 06 truck and i wanted to use KLM Parts as their warehouse is nearby. KLM carries Spyntec and Dynatrac.

They called me back to tell me that the Spyntec kit is out of stock everywhere and the company is reorganizing and not sure what the future holds.

KLM is coming out with their own kit for our trucks. It will be ready in 60 days or so. He assures me it has solved all the issues of the unsealed ABS sensor on the Dynatrack (a real issue in snow country) and other issues on the Spyntec.

I'm not in any rush so I decided to wait and see what they come out with.........

Has anyone bought a Spyntec kit recently (2010). All the posts I've found are a bit dated............

Roy,

I put a post up back on 1-5-10 about a call(a couple weeks prior) I'd received from Solid Axle saying they had the Spyntec kits in stock and ready to ship. Now I'd first contacted Solid Axle some 8 months before that about the original Spyntec Kit and they finally got to me.

So they finally get the kit rereleased and now cant keep it in stock...lovely!

Guess I'll be waiting till spring to make a decision as to how I want to proceed.

The nice thing about the Spyntec kit was everything pre-assembled. With most of the kits you have to get the studs pressed or something done that most weekend mechanics don't have the tools for or have access to. Which is the main reason I've avoided Dynatrac or EMS.

I contacted two other suppliers of Spyntec and both are out of stock, expecting shipments in March. One told me I had to pre-order as they were only getting 10 sets and they were going fast.

I like what i heard from KLM and I'm going to wait until I see what their offering is like.

I dont recall pressing in the studs when i put my EMS kit in. Well i dont recall the dodge mechanic who did it in his driveway needing anything special but that was 3 years ago

Spytec makes a good product, but if you can't keep it in stock, it's gotta be hard to keep your doors open...

Dynatrac pressed in my studs, bearing races, and the other assembly that could be done. Glad I went with them. How would you get a part for a spyntec hub? Not that you would ever need one but ya never know. Dynatrac could next day one to me anywhere.

I thought EMS was the spyntec kit????? When I went to get pricing on the spyntec kit I found them at EMS Offroad. This was two weeks ago and they had the kits in stock for $1550.

Does EMS make its own kit too? If so why would they be selling the spyntec?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Dave,

EMS used to have/make their own kit and for the longest time they were backordered. They just recently picked up Spyntec, but I believe they might be out of stock on those as well.

Have to admit the Dynatrac kit is starting to sound better with no one else being able to keep anything in stock.

The abs system on my wifes Grande Cherokee is open and not sealed and we have a lot of snow up here in Canada and we have never had a problem with it.

Talk to erik at dlux fab.
He will help you out.
He can press in the studs for you as well if you'd like.
Or just bang them in with a hammer and a piece if wood like I did.
Plus his kits aren't on backorder.

The dlux fab info says "gives a slightly wider stance". According to the pictures it looks like over 1" per side. Nothing against Erik as I don't know him or have personal experience with his product, but the track width difference indicates that the kit is not engineered very well. Not only will the difference put increased stress on the wheel bearings, but it will result in the truck needing spacers out back to even it out.

The difference is quite slight, I too was worried about the difference in front and rear tracking widths but when I got my kit you wouldn't even notice the difference unless you were looking for it.
I really do not believe you would have any kind of wheel bearing issues at all.
The new serviceable timken bearings are way beefier and spaced much farther apart, I do not believe these bearings would fail easily. Part of the reason why I think his kit does increase track width is that he tried his best to find parts that would be easy to find in case of failure, no one off billet parts.
But any kit that eliminates unit bearings is a positive regardless of brand name.
Ballistic Fab is also bringing out a free spin kit, really $$$ but looks pretty mean.
My 2cents

The pics of the third gen on the Dlux site paint a different picture. The width looks very significant to me the way it is shown. Looking at the tire it is showing most of another tread block.

I've heard that Ballistic was coming out with a kit since their owner purchased a CTD last fall. I was talking to one of their guys about it and was holding off buying anything else until theirs was done. They are somewhat local for me.
