First of all, I hope all involved are alright?
I have heard that Airbags go off only in severe crashes? They say if you walk away only bruised you probably wouldn't have wanted an explosion in your face? With that said if there were no injuries, it's always a shame to see a banged up CTD

Sorry about the accident, glad no serious injury. Might want to repair the bumper with a Ranch Hand or similar product.

Airbags only deploy under certain conditions. If you hit a moveable object then there probably was not enough enrgy to trigger them. If you hit head on with an oncoming moving vehicle or a stationary object like an oak tree they probably would have deployed. It was good that you were wearing your seatbelt!. Also airbag deployment can cause some significant injuries themselves so you are probably better off that it did not. The way I drive, hand on top of the stearing wheel will probably get my arm broken on my skull or at the least a broken nose if mine ever goes off in a crash.

I hit a Subaru head on at 50mph, then flipped, and no airbag deployment.

this mazda's bag did not deploy either......

This incident happened in May 9, 2006 at EDSA Road, Metro Manila, Philippines.

11 days after the incident, representatives of Ford and Mazda Philippines met with them. Their investigation have concluded that they were not moving fast enough at impact to deploy the air bags.

seems like you have to hit the bag sensors just right to make them deploy...sorry about your brand new truck!!!
Glad you guys are ok...

I am no physisist but there are more than a couple of dynamics involved. On the other hand they are only pieces of equipment that could be prone to failure. More likely though the required force was not present

for the airbags to go off you must be applying the breaks enough to tilt the truck forward and then have an object hit the front of the vehicle.

not sure if you were applying the breaks enough or not.
