working in and around toronto

Need some advice. I am going to be driving to toronto from maryland and working all week in toronto. I would like to know what my truck needs since the temperature is a lot colder in Toronto. I have never plugged my truck up and not sure it even has a plug. Do I need one and do the hotels have plug access? So if you guys have any recommendations for keeping my truck thawed I would greatly appericate it. Thanks in advance for any help.

thanks Joe

Make sure you have a plug in for your block heater, Cummins part is more cost effective. Block off part of the rad, make sure your antifreeze is good to -40, change to 5w40 diesel sythetic and cycle your grid heaters twice and you're good to go. I've started my truck at -26 with being plugged in. It was unhappy, but it went

Joe, in all likelihood you will be just fine going the way you are. Toronto is by now means the arctic and in fact quite temperate really, they seldom see deep cold temperatures there. (IE. -30 would be extremely rare) Hotels and the like will probably not even have Block heater plugins.

Here is a link to weather forecast in Toronto, as you can see they are calling for day time temperatures above freezing and night time temps that are not too severe. You will be just fine in my oppinion.

Have a good trip!

I just checked the weather in TO and it shows o/nite lows around -10 C and snow for the next 4 days. I would make sure you have a shovel in case you get tangled in deep snow. A block heater is nice but most higher class hotels have underground parking. If you call your hotel ask about parking. Chances are you could get away without a blockheater but don't forget your snow brush. I use a clip on winter/summer front, summer is bug screen and winter is vinyl clips on the outside of the grill, cost around $40.

thanks for all the feedback. I will be as far north as Orillia so I will keep my fingers crossed that I don't forget my gloves and shovel.

Yea, I guess Toronto (center of the universe!!!) does not get that cold, every time I hear about cold temps, I visualize where I live and what it takes to keep the vehicles going here...

I wouldn't worry much about the temps. in Toronto I think you will be just fine as I live about 180 miles Southwest of Toronto but we have similar temps. The biggest concern I would have is talk to wherever you are staying and find out if the height of your vehicle will be of concern for parking as I know it is something I always have to worry about when I make a trip. Good Luck with the trip and have a good time.

Yeah, having spent time in both T.O and Saskatoon, I can relate!

Two different issues here, in 'Toon you could have to deal with extreme cold, I think the last week I spent there this winter was down to -39 or something some nights. In Toronto you could have to deal with extreme snow. They have really been dumped on this winter from what I have heard.

Like somebody allready said, a small folding shovel and a pair of gloves could be a good idea, if you are parked on a street or something you could get plowed in.

First off make sure that your block heater cord is on the truck, from Maryland I imagine it likely is but double check. Take an extension cord with you, up to Orillia will be cooler than Toronto for sure.

But again, YOU AREN'T GOING TO THE ARCTIC, YOU ARE FINE!
