Wipers Jumping

Did a quick search and didn't find anything but I picked up my 03 2500 last November and have always had problems with wipers skipping across the windshield when going over 30 MPH. I even bought new wipers thinking that it was the wipers.

I have concluded that the wiper springs are possibly loosing some of their pulling strength.

I would to know if other people are having the same problem and if my conclusion is correct before I go and get raped from the dealership.

I had the same problem with my 05.
I cleaned the window with Stoners and fine steel wool to remove all the junk from the window.
I replaced the wipers with Bosch replacements and havent had the prob since.
Hope this helps.

No, I haven't tried doing a deep cleaning of the windshield nor do I have wind deflectors. The wipers work perfect if going under 30 mph so that is why I think the springs are not putting enough pressure on the wiper arms.

Try a deep clean first.Bet thats the issue before I'd even think springs in the wiper arms.Bon Ami is a APPROVED glass cleaner on all but plastic type windsheilds.Cleaned MANY with it.

What happens if you drive fast against the wind in the rain? Mine get really light on the windshield and barely wipe at all. Seems like wind gets under them and pull them off. Maybe some wipers with a down force spoiler?

Took my wifes Jeep up to 115 mph in the rain a few weeks ago, wipers worked perfect.

personally i would recommend against those. they put alot more preassure on the wipers shortening their life as well as the wiper transimission and motor.

If you decide to get the Bosch wipers, get them from Amazon.com. They had the best prices a few weeks ago when I bought mine ($17.50 each w/free shipping).

Clean your windsheild, and put 'RAIN X' on it. Works for me.

I also swear by Rain-X. Love it.... but only effective over 35 mph. On hwy, I never use my wipers. Rain-X is a great visibility improver and tension reducer on long wet trips!

'dj' - you may be right about wear and tear from Sure Wipe Springs? Because of Rain-X, I have had no problems, but that may be because I use wipers very seldom ..... and live in a dry part of the country anyway.

I agree, use some Rain-X, it will make a set of wipers last for a long time. The wipers will slide right over the glass and not chatter at all.

Actually I totally disagree with all the last posts about Rain-X. First let me say that I have used it since the 80s and always loved it. My wipers in my first car would just stop working anytime I used them and with Rain-X I never worried about it again. Fast forward to 2003 when I got my 03 Ram. Everything was fine until I tried the Rain-X on it. That's when the skipping started with that truck. Someone here suggested removing the Rain-X and seeing how the wipers worked then. Well, It got much better. I tried using it again on my 07 and the wipers started skipping again. Put a good cleaner on the windshield and it went away again.
I refuse to use it on my current truck even though I hate wipers and prefer to drive in the rain with the Rain-X....

Catch 22 !!!!!!!!!!!
Use Rain-X.... and you don't need to use your wipers much. But when you do use them, they will be more likely to 'skip'
Around here, I'm 80-90% country roads or 4 lane Hwy. I'll stay with the Rain-X!

I'm still tempted to use it because I just think it's cool to see the water just run off the windshield when you are driving. I absolutely hate when the wipers skip around like that when I DO need them though...
