Will 245/75-17 tires work on 3rd Gen wheels?
I found some 245/75-17 tires (from a Ford dually) for sale for $50 each. My tires have decent tread, but they're not the best. And I don'thave the funds to spend $850 (from Costco) for a new set.
What is the difference between 245/75-17 tires and the factory tires. I don't have my truck with me now, so I can't get the tire size, but they're factory size... I think they're 265/65-17?

You will need to check the specifications on those tires you want to buy and the current rim width you have. If the rim is narrow enough, you can use them. The will be pretty close to the stock size you have now and you many be able to get the speedo corrected by a dealer.
Do you know the width of stock 3rd Gen rims? I'm thinking 8". The guy with the tires said his rims are 7.5" wide.
Sounds like they might work. It sure will save me some money.

They'll fit perfectly.
The 245s will be 31.5" tall and 9.6" wide
The stock 265s are 31.6" tall and 10.6" wide
The 245s fit best on wheels 6.5" - 8" wide.
****** up the 245s before someone else does.
With the narrower width, you'll likely see a small increase in mpg as well.

The first mistake was taking advice from a guy at walmart. I used to work that job back in college. Out of our crew, only about 3 guys knew what they were doing. The others didn't know tire sizes, load ratings,.. I'd seen them put lug nuts on backwards, peel the clear coat or chrome off of a rim mounting a tire on it, not seating the bead, forgetting to balance tires, forgetting to torque down the lug nuts, putting 500ft-lb of torque on lug nuts, put directional tires on backwards, low pressure valve stems to replace high pressure ones, put long valve stems in place of short ones, beat up hub caps putting them on, cross threading lugs, put different sized tires from one side to another, put passenger tires on a 3/4 ton or 1ton truck......the list goes on.
