I have some left over rims and tires from my hummer h1 will they fit I was told the brakes are too big?

You were told correctly. Heck, even my 17" H2 rims barely miss the calipers...

 

No, they will not fit

 

Yes, with ALOT of grinding on the calipers. However I don't recomend this on a new truck. I bought a AAM of ebay awhile back to go under my previous 1/2 ton Ram trail rig, I ended up dropping the project and sold the axle to one of my buds and he ended up using it for the purpose I had intended. He is running 16.5 aluminium wheels and they barely fit, he said that a decent amount had to ground off. With steel wheels you still have to grind, just not quite as much as aluminum.

 

i would not want 16.5's on anything.
