Cool Wife Wants a Cummins

My wife wants to sell her Chrysler Aspen and get a 3rd Gen QC Cummins (5.9L only)

Is there a particular year I should look for or stay away from? She will only drive one with an auto trans.

EFILive is a very in depth and tweak-able tuning method/format/programmer that has shown serious potential in even stock trucks. A search for "cummins efi live results" will give you some good reading.

To the OP: they also are releasing tuning for you 6.7.

I have a 2005 model,

you should see the smile on my wife's face as the big dog pulls her camper.

No worries, it has great power, good mpg, and is very comfortable, she has no problem driving it.

some say 05 has better seats than 06, but i do not know for sure about that.
I think what she really likes is the sound of that big motor up there just humming along.

great truck and she likes it, also has plenty of room for the grandkids.

what's not to like as my buddy is pouring urea in his gmc diesel.

<-- This wife loves her truck.

The interiors changed in 06. The 03-05 trucks have better cloth seats. The 06 will stain if you look at it wrong. Rain will stain it. In fact, I got caught in a downpour at our last soccer game. I didn't bring a towel or change of clothes so I had to drive home soaking wet. Now my seat is stained like a hobo took a leak on it I intend to find seat covers. I've also read if you pull the covers off and throw them in the wash that they stop staining so easy after that. Not certain if that's true.

The 03-05s get slightly better mpg than the 06-07s. Can't remember which year typically gets the best mpg though.

The headlights/grill are different on 03-05s, changed for 06(-09). The 07s have the bubble looking taillights.

I went for a late model 5.9l because I wanted the 5.9, and the 06s had the kind of mileage and price I was looking for at the time.

.
I would venture to guess that pre 04.5 would get the best mileage, no cat and no third injection event.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the thought of the efi live (friend of mine uses it on his car), but no cats are quite appealing. Thats a decision I will leave to her.

I know these engines can run nearly forever, but is there a certain mileage we should steer away from either based on the year or not?

My wife wanting a diesel just got even better yesterday as now she is so intrigued about how diesels run that she wants to take the two year diesel mechanics course offered at one of the colleges here. I thought that was cool...surprising, but cool. In nearly 8 years, never thought mechanics interested her.

Yes to the MPG on the 04.5:
motors to look for are 305 HP and maybe 555 ft-lbs? Those are supposed to get great mileage.
