Count me in! Bought new in 04, took the 0%, 48 month package so it's been paid off for a couple of years. Generally, it's been 55k miles of trouble-free usage - but it's mostly a grocery getter, so I don't work it too hard. I had a scare this morning though. After a long weekend out of town, I started out the driveway and left about 1ft wide solid trail of something liquid behind me in the mirror. When it didn't seem to stop after about 100yds, I jumped out (fully expecting the smell of diesel fuel). Happily, it was just clear water. Apparently, we had a brief but productive rain storm while I was away and it must have collected the water somewhere in fairly large quantities. Anyway, I'm happy with this truck and expect many more years of relatively trouble-free enjoyment.

I love both my trucks, and the only thing I like about the new ones is the cab.

Not quite reason enough though due to emissions and price, and with the deal I got on my '08, I plan on keeping it a LONG time.

What a great thread. Have an 04.5 and like many have said on here I am currently planning to keep because:
1) Its paid for
2) Love the style, still looks good to me. In fact, planning on changing the front lights/fenders/grille to the 06-09 style to keep it looking "fresh"
3) A TON of mods. The truck is very close to being perfect for me. Of course there are still some mods left to do, you never finish and a new truck means starting ALL OVER again
4)No DPF and EGR. When I got the 04.5 I was worried over the CAT. Little did I know then that was MINOR to what is now on the new trucks. Besides the CAT has never given me casue for concern or problems.
5) Power wise it is probably better than the "11's since I have a Smarty JR; 62/65/13ss; AFE Intake manifold; AFE Stage2; and MBRP Cool Duals.
6) Never a bit of trouble! Best truck I have owned. Low miles on it
7) Did I mention I love this truck and never has given me trouble?
8) Has a strong family resemblance between the truck and my other car in the photo below:

New ones aren't enough of an improvement to make close to a reasonable switch.
97K and still going strong...need brake pads on the front end I think.

Love my 06- 111k miles on it- roughly 19mpg (4/10 rear end)- keeping truck till it hits 200k possibly longer.. probally going back to a gas motor due to all the emmisions on the new motors

Haha too funny! I remember a similar thread in 2nd gen section asking who was going to trade off their 2nd gen for a 3rd.

Went something like,"No way I'm takign a loan to trade my old rattling reliable 12V in for something with that much electonics and those stupid bubble headlights."

Personally I be getting a 6spd auto as soon as I can. Probably won't be a 4th gen though....

105K miles so far, and still running like a champ. other than a fuel pump, an alternator, and a couple of batteries, no problems. I'd say I'll be keeping it for a long time, but I kinda promised my son it'll be his if he reenlists. last time I spoke with him (he's in Afghanistan now), he's gonna do it, so I may be in the market for a 4th gen even if I'd rather keep Big Red!

mjf6175,

Mine is very much like yours. Standard cab, '08 H2s and free spin hubs. But mine doesn't say GMC on it. Now if you just debadge the cab, people will really get confused! I know Ford owns Cummins, but does GMC own Dodge?

That's exactly what I was thinking reading this thread.

My 06 just rolled 45K miles. I recently got some hail damage that needs to be repaired. I was thinking about getting a Smarty Jr. once the repairs were done to reward the truck. I want to add an exhaust brake and free spin hubs, even without those it does a great job for me. I've got 3.5 years more payments, but I'm planning on having it paid off in about 2 more years. I've got extended warranty on it for about another 2.5 years. I really do hope someone markets a conversion to put the 6 speed auto behind the 5.9, I think that would make for a great combo.

I'm not going to say I'll never upgrade to a gen 4 or 5, but I don't see any reason to upgrade this one in the forseeable future. After a while they will get the emissions dialed in and the HP wars will have pushed them up to 500 HP/1000 FT-LB. Unfortunately they will probably cost $80K and only be sold to people the EPA determines as worthy

I love mine! I have 62K on it and 19 payments left. It has done anything I have asked it to do, and never left me stranded. Being laid off currently, I don't budget money to drive it very often. But when I do it still makes me proud to own it. I will not sell mine, there is nothing else out there that interests me enough to spend that kind of coin. Long live the third gen!

Raspy...have not got around to covering up the letters. Used them since very easy to with the H2 wheels, just pop them on. No moification needed or cutting the cap.

^^^ Nice Viper.

Got 116k on mine. Less then a year till she's payed off. And it's currently sitting in my shop with a blown tranny. The truck has been nothing short of awesome. I have no plans on getting rid of it, unless someone with a 6 spd standard cab wants to trade?
