Hello my Dad is looking to buy a 3rd gen quad cab one ton dually cummins/auto

what should he look at for problems or things that are better then other years.

One that he found is a 2003 4x4 slt cummins auto one ton dually quadcab patriot blue with a canapy and only 16,000 miles. The front passenger fender was hit and was replaced other then that I dont think theres a mark on it. I think he wants $40 grand for it. He thinks thats high.

He also kind off wanted leather seats and this one dosent have them. Was there problems with the 03's being as they were the first year of the common rail. Did any years have better suspension. Also he was kind of looking for an 05 or maybe 06 just so it was closer to being new, but 16,00 miles is pretty low (mine has 395,000 miles).

ya i think its to high but it 40,000 canadian and to buy a new half ton here is well over 40 he is kind of looking in the 35,000 price range and is looking for like a 05 or 06 but isnt finding alot with an auto and he dosent want a white one so hes not finding alot when he first found that one the person who found it for him said it was an 05 thats why he was looking at it. Im just wondering what to look out for on these trucks , like on a 24 vavle theres the vp44 and 53 blocks. just wondering if the third gens had any common problems

 

Just get as new as you can afford. No issues with my 2006.
