What could be causing this.

At first, my left axle u-joint would not give me that "loping", 4 wheel drive on pavement feeling, all of the time. Than it started doing it all of the time when turning. Had both sides changed at 71,000 miles.

I had to have mine done at the Dealer because I needed it done "right now" (long trip etc.). If you decide it is the u-joints, try to get it done someplace that can put greasable u-joints on it for you (if possible). I dont know how you could check it yourself without a lift, maybe somebody else can chime in.
When I get back from the Caribbean a week from Sunday, I will take it to a good Cummins guy in Golden, CO. He will put the greasable u-joints in for me. I talked to him on the phone and he agrees that it sounds like the u-joints and although I usually do my own work on most everything. I don't feel like doing this one.
