What 17" wheels DO fit?
What 17" wheels DO fit?
Having just gone through the agony of ordering wheels (Helo 17X9 Maxx 8) and having tires (BFG 315/70 -17) mounted and balanced, only to find they (the wheels) wouldn't squeeze past the front calipers..................I was curious to get some feedback on what 17" wheels will fit on my 2003 2500 4X4 (came stock with the 265s). I saw some Helo Guns mounted with the same tires etc., and THEY seem to fit (and looked pretty good). Also, keeping the wheels tucked under the wheel wells somewhat would be nice - I'm not a serious off roader, so clearance isn't quite as big an issue. Thanks for your time!
Man, I really want to know the answer to this as well. How close is the fit? I cleared 15" wheels on my 01 fronts by just grinding the calipers down. Put 25K on it that way with the only issue being NO stick on weights in the area you had to grind.
Really would like to know the answer here guys. I'm dying to get a set of Moto Metals put on mine.

I've got Weld Cheyenne wheels in a 17x9.5. I went to Les Schwab and let them do the dirty work, as they first pulled out a set of chrome Foose 17x9. These fit on the front, but would not fit over the rear hub. They yanked those apart and put the Welds on, took my cash and gave me my warranty, and rotation info.

I know the safe bet is 18s, but I'm trying to go cheap here. I've got a line on 4 new (they where put on a friends recently purchased truck to help it sell) BFG 315/70-17s for $400, and with the Helo wheels, I can get in for $12-1300. I saw a 2500 with the same tires on a set of Helo Guns, and they seemed to fit OK. Anyway - anybody chip in if they're successfully running aftermarket 17s. Which ones, and what modifications where required (if any). Again, thanks...
I've got 17" American Racing Pythons on mine. No mods needed they fit just fine.
When I was wheel shopping last year, I bought a set of wheels that were 0 offset and they stuck way out. I told the salesguy I didn't want anything that stuck out and was as close to factory specs as possible. After putting them on the truck I didn't like 'em at all and they took them back. The Pythons had the most negative offset I could find. The wheel salesguy and I looked through all the manufacturers catalogs trying to find something close to the factory wheels -30 offset. Without going to a Boyd or someother custom made wheel, the closest we could get was -12 on the Pythons. Most aftermarket wheels will have 0 offset, some will have -6 offset because this fits Ford and Chevy real well but sticks way out on a Dodge.
Good luck.

most places that you purchase wheels at will test fit wheels prior to you purchasing them. I would just decide what wheels you like, and what you can get. i would first test the wheel on the front, if it clears then mount one tire and test on the the truck. If it clears the calipers and bumper, fender ect, you should be in business. most places want a happy customer. I used to work at tire/wheel shop, on my truck some 17's would fit and some would not, like i said you just have to try and see.
The Centerline Crossfire wheels are the closests I have found that come to stock. 17" x 8.5" wheel with 6" of backspacing.

Add to that they are forged and not cast.

Take a look here. The H2 wheels with a little mod will work. You can find them on ebay.
