Weight Differences?
For drag racing I believe that the formula is 1/10 sec. for every 100 lbs.
So if this is going to be a dedicated racer, I would buy the reg. cab long bed and cut the frame and make it a reg. cab short bed...
Best of both worlds

yep, I'd look for a Reg cab short box before I ever got into that. Pretty hard core when you can just buy one already done from the factory. Good luck to ya whatever you decide!
Edit : Now that I think about it ... I don't think I've ever seen a Reg cab short box with a Cummins ... maybe they don't make one so you'ld have to cut it up if that's what you wanted.

Yep, the regular cab short boxes are only available in the 1500's, which means no CTD's. Well not yet anyway.
I had one before my Cummins. Rumor has it a V8 Cummins will be available in the 1500 series in 2009 or 2010. There should be one then, but who knows what they'll do. One in 2wd might be nice to hit the track with.
