A very nice upgrade: remote start

I just finished installing the remote start on my truck, I have to say I am exceptionally happy with it and I consider it a MUST HAVE accessory.

I bought an OEM setup, I didn't want to get any aftermarket for fear they will mess something up or make truck impossible to start if failed (my daughter had one like that few years ago).
The whole unit cost me $ 155, and I spent 2.5 hours to install it, following the clear instructions with the package.

I can start truck from inside the house while I get ready to go to work, or from inside my shop without having anybody unhappy since I take 5 minutes off 15 minutes before lunch or end of day.

The system works very slick, and it's completely safe, it does wait 30 seconds to pre-heat and will run up to 10 or 15 minutes then shut truck off, if needed it can be repeated up to 8 times.

No more worries the wife runs the truck cold.

If I have to buy (and will in the future) I will buy it already installed from factory.

If I lived in the land of 10,000 lakes, I would have one too.

I had the dealer install one before I took it home. We don't get a lot of snow and cold here, but we get enough.

It's a nice addition in places where it doesn't snow, too. On a hot day it's nice to let the interior cool down before I get in it. The sun here can be brutal.

Nice! My previous truck had one installed and it was awesome for all the snow we got. Had a turbo timer too which I thought was the coolest thing to walk off and watch everyone sorta get nervous because the truck was still running.

Were did you get the remote starter from? I see my local dealer is advertising a unit for about the same price.

I wonder how far they can really reach? My truck is always parked about 60-70 yards from where I work. If I had to walk halfway, so be it.

The part # is different for many years, the receiver itself (separate from the kit) is same for some.
Check sites like dodgeparts.com, that's where I bought mine.

They advertise 800 ft range but I haven't tried it that far yet.

I have had several asto start remote starters. They have a 1/4 mile range and the 4 that I had worked flawless.

The OE remotes work with a manual trans?
Been thinking about getting one. Wife parks the truck outside at work all day and I know she doesn't warm it up at all.

Although alot of other things on these Dodge trucks arent up to par with the other makes, the remotes have a great range!

Remote starts on a diesel do work. You can hear the pump turn on for a certain amount of time before the starter engages. I'm not sure if that time can be set manually, I would guess yes depending on the model you go with.

I am also interested. Do you think there is some way to keep the truck running with this devise? In my 06 I kept a spare key in the truck and when I went to check a couple things on a jobsite or go into a gas station I would get out of the truck and lock it with the spare key but with the 07 it just automatically unlocks.

I put a astro start in a 97,99 powerstroke both cost $350 I installed myself but they would have charged $200 to do it.
On the Powerstrokes there was a extra relay that would wait for the glow plugs to turn off before cranking.

All my dodges have been manuals. I looked into doing it but the only way to do it was bypass the safety neutral switch. That really isn't safe
