truck at dealer - nervous

after having my truck for a week, i noticed a small ding above the right tail light. i called my salesman and told him about it and he said to bring it in and they would take care of it for free. this morning, their paintless dent repair guy got the dent out. so far, so good. then he decided to buff the area and i guess he burned the clear coat. my salesman was pi$$ed and now my truck is in their body shop. he says they can re-clear coat the area so i couldn't tell anything was done. he told the body shop that doing a good job wasn't acceptable - it was a new truck and had to be perfect.

my salesman is a great guy (bought 3 vehicles from him) and the dealership is one of the largest in the nation and has great customer service. as long as i can't tell anything was done, i guess i'll be fine with it. does anyone know if fixing a clear coat is easy for a body shop or should i be worried? i just hate to see my new baby go through this, even though it's a small area.

Clear coating a spot is easy for a good body shop. Once it's cleared, smoothed, matched and buffed, you shouldn't be able to even tell anything went on.

You may have found a decent dealer there.

If you burn the clear you can't just reclear, you have to apply color to the area as well, or else you will still see the spot that was burned. When you spot in an area, you can just spot the color in, but the entire panel needs to be cleared, or else you will have problems down the road with the edges peeling and yellowing. I hope they do an acceptable job on your truck...

i just got the truck back and it looks perfect. the dent is gone and they clear coated the panel with no signs that work was done on it. i got a receipt that says i have a lifetime warranty on the repair work. so i'm feeling a lot better now.
