Truck Building location

Somewhere I read a post (can't find it now) that you could tell from the VIN # where the truck will be built. Can someone tell me where to look in the VIN number to find this?

Re:Truck Building location

In the last 8 digits, if it says 3G will be Saltillo, Mexico and that is where you would want it built

Hunter

Thanks Hunter. Mexico is where it was built. Is something wrong with St Louis?

Re:Truck Building location

I was told that it is the first digit, 1- usa, 2 -can., 3 -mex., for what its worth. Customer service a DC told me this when I was tracking truck. He also stated it is the same for all the big 3.

The "G" does mean Saltillo and a "J" would indicate St. Louis.

Re:Truck Building location

Actually, the 1st digit of the VIN does refer to the country of origin... in fact PicDodge is exactly right, and that does apply too all auto manufacturers. Maybe a VIN decoder section would be a good addition to this site? Just a thought.

Re:Truck Building location

I agree drafalske, about the first digit, and 3 is Mexico I believe. I was referring to the 3 in Hunter's post as in "3G", 3 being the year and G being the plant.
