Trouble deciding on tires
Thinking and wanting the 285/70's next time also but I tow about 8K and with the auto trans just a little worried about lugging it. The 265's work great but look tiny. There are a lot of big grades out west that I go over on vacation. If I won't notice the difference or there are other plusses on the 285's then I go for them.
285/75x17 Toyo AT's on my truck. For me it's the perfect tire. I've only got 20k on them but they are holding up well. They hold almost 4k per tire, pretty good traction everywhere I've been, quiet.
Good news...
I found on Bridgestone's site that this year they will have the Revo II available in 285/70-17 in load range E. This tire gets the highest reviews on Tire Rack so you may look at those.
Revos are good tires..... 
I had the BFG AT 305/65R-17 on my truck just a few thousand miles ago.
While I have always loved the BFG AT tires, they suck on a stock Dodge at that size. I had to have them balanced every 5,000 miles. They cause death wobble. They wore unevenly.
Why? The stock rim is too narrow. It's only an 8" rim. So the tire centers wore faster because the tire was always puckered. The sides flexed A LOT. Great for a Jeep in the sand, not so great pulling 13,000 pounds with 3,000 in the bed.
I looked HARD at the Good Year Silent Armors. Nice tire.
I wanted the Toyo AT's but finally decided on the Nitto Dura-Grapplers for their size, 34" x 11.5" , and for their capacity, nearly 4,000 pounds each.
Sure, they are a highway tire, but most reviews are saying they are doing good in the snow. Mine has done real good, going through heavy snow pulling a 10,000 pound wood wagon, but I do think they feel different on the snow at highway speeds. I'll go through 6" of snow at 70 mph with my BFG's, but I think the Nitto's will demand more respect.
You have to decide what you do with your truck. I gave up cool looks (BFG's look nice, so do the other AT tires) but did I give up off road capability???
I can assure you, these diesels are not off road machines. For the off roading I do, I think my Nittos will be fine. They clean a lot better than the BFG's! Man those BFG's carry mud for a mile down the asphalt...
I wanted a stiff strong tire that was good carrying a load, was big enough to fill the wheel well, that ran quiet and true, didn't break the bank, and was somewhat narrow for all the snow we get. Because the Silent Armors cost too much, and I didn't know if I should take a chance on the new BFG 285/75R-17 , I went with the Nitto Duras. So far so good.

I bought the hankook rf-10's today. Thought a lot, searched a lot here on the forum and someone posted a tire shoot out http://www.4x4tirereview.com/ATcomparotest.html Make your own decision as to the validity of this test. I bought them for all the good responses about the rf-10's and maybe the shootout test.
Love my Hankook Dyna Pro ATM in 285/70/17 E rated 3700+ lbs rating. Great traction in snow and mud. Almost 10k on them and look brand new. Loved my BFG in same size but these where 300 cheaper and carry more wieght.
I'm with you. As soon as these tires wear out I'm going back to a Bridgestone Revo Dueller. Most tires when they wear they get hard as a rock (Michelin) but Revos get softer as they wear. They are a great heavy weight tire and they ride good for an E rated tire.
i get retreads from a local shop all on bfg rugged trail 10 ply cores and they have the bfg at ko tread pattern for 350 installed or 310 if my buddy puts them on for me i get 20,000 plus out of them and could not be happier.
i had bfg rugged trails i paid almost $900 and got 20,000 i also had bfg at's brand new on hummer rims and got 20,000. so for a 1/3 of the price i still get 20,000 these are my new tires for life. the shop is esseys tires in pittburgh pa

i dont really know i have been know to do a few burnouts but not enough to kill off my tires. im a bit of a lead foot but who isent in these trucks. i just think i have bad luck with tires. the retreads are soft and in my oppinion are great in the winter cause they stay soft and grippy. as long as they dont blow apart on me im going to keep running them.
My Hankook tires (see sig) have 25000 mile on them and look new. Plus they have twice the sipeing and don't slip on wet pavement like the BFG did.
