tree sap on truck

I parked my truck underneath some type of hardwood tree. Now I have some sap or something on it that I can't wash off. Any suggestions that wouldn't damage the finish. Thanks for any info.

Try the paste type hand cleaner. Be sure to use the kind without pumice (the grit will scratch the paint) It will not hurt the finish, but you will have to re-wax because it will strip the wax off.

WD-40 or Goo Gone and some elbow grease should take it off.

You can get a SureScrub from Napa, its clearcoat safe and feels pretty damaging, but after using them I wonder why I didn't have them in the first place.

Clay bar works well on tree sap.

I use PPG DX 440 for bugs and tar. It doesnt mess up the clear but will remove any wax. Its pretty good stuff, but a little expensive.

I use my wife's finger nail polish remover, works well but it does take the wax with it.

I'd use a clay bar and polish. That will also rejuvenate your paint by removing any oxidation. You'll be amazed at how good it will turn out.

Check out autopia.org. It is a free worldwide professional detailers web site. I'm sure you can find the answer to your question and any other question about taking care of your paint.

You got a lot of good replies onhow to get rid of the stuff. Howeverr, I don't think it is all tree sap. I have some large oak trees in my yard and have an infestation of aphids. The stuff you have on your truck is aphid s**t. That and a combination of sap leaking out of the leaf when they poke holse in them.

BINGO!!!! Removes all contaminates on paint, ie road tar, bugs, bird crap etc..

Second choice is clay bar for everything else.

Just be sure you wax after to protect paint!!
