Tradin up!
I have a 2007 Hemi 1500 that will soon be going to the dealer to be traded up to a 2500 CTD. My question is should I be looking for a QuadCab Laramie or an SLT Mega? Which one will give me most bang for my buck? Mamma wants a Mega...I tend to agree..but don't think I need leather. Would like the sunroof though. What other options should I consider. Here is what I am thinking:
2500 MegaCab
4x4
Siderails (for wife)
Big Horny pkg should cover the foglamps, rear slider and noise box.
Not too concerned about leather, plan on covering either leather or cloth with those Okole seat covers any who...
4" lift would be nice
Does Jake Brake come standard?
3:73's
Auto
Pocket flares
Larger tires
**Am I leaving anything out??
Thinking I will call Dave Smith first as they have the SLT's with the Big Horny Pkg for about $33K then I can start adding things on....they also have a guy that can put in aftermarket sunroof...anyone have any experience with these from there?
I know its a lot of questions...but what are forums for?
Thanks!!

i think the mega look a little funny but there growing on me. if you ever have anyone over the age of 10 in your back seat they will thank you greatly for the mega cab. my next truck will be a mega cab for sure, but for now i feel sorry for the guys i car pool with.
Recommend you go with 4.10 gears versus the 3.73. With the bigger meats, I don't think you'll realize that much in the way of mileage benefits with the 3.73s. Right now in town, I am getting mid 17s and on highway around 20 mpg with 315 BFGs and 4.10 gears.
Personally, I think the Quad is enough. I am 5'9" and have problem sitting in the back seat. Cross-country would be a different story, but for short trips, the Quad would be fine. Mega looks more like an oversized Explorer Sport-Trac. Your choice.
I would also stay away from the sunroof. Just something else to break or leak, especially if you plan on doing any off-roading and flexing of the frame or chassis.
These are just my opinions and what I look for in a truck. So take them for what they're worth to you. Good luck.

I had an 03 2500 CTD and wanted a Megacab so I bought an 07 1500 Megacab 4 months ago. I thought I would be ok without the CTD but I was WRONG!!!! I got a fully loaded Laramie with everything but DVD and navigation and I paid what I would have paid for an SLT 2500 CTD. I just fought with the dealership which I have bought 5 trucks from in the last 4 years to take a 5K loss and hopefully tomorrow they will pick up my new Megacab dually. I'm getting an SLT and will miss the toys I have now but I can't wait to get back behind the CTD. I learned my lesson the hard way I would only recomend the hemi to guys like my Dad who only drive 10,000 miles a year (retired) and he only tows his quad in a 10 foot trailer but he even misses his old 95 2500 CTD!!!!!!!!
Ive got the quad cab and love it. I dont haul people around very often, but have never had any complaints by the people in the back. I kinda wish I had got the laramie for the leather seats and power sliding window, but I could probably change those out for less than the package costs. I have just about every option you could get on the SLT though. Im very pleased with mine, and the price looked a whole lot better than the Mega set up the same way. Plus I dont like the shorter bed. There are days I wish I had gotten the long bed, but then it wouldnt fit in the garage to work on it with the door down.

Thanks for the replies! I am going back to nothing less than a CTD. I will likely lean on getting the 6.7 specifically for the jake brake. I have a 21ft tow travel trailer and this would be a welcome option. Mamma is all up on the Mega cause she has road in them with baby seats (any day now she is popping) and so as you said "Happy Wife Happy Life!" =] I think I will do the mega but be content with the SLT, maybe pay a little more for a 4.5" lift, wheel/tires, side steps & Flares. As I recall Dave Smith sells the Big Horn Pkg for wholesale so its a $500 option for the rest of what I want. Thanks again!!
Go for the Laramie package, you will be happy you did in the long run. And it seems like your new truck will be kind of a family rig. You will enjoy the extra goodies after a while. I have an '06 Laramie DRW 4x4 that serves as my daily driver/car. I do not miss having a car until I go to the big city and try to find a place to park the dang thing. And the sun roof is really nice.
And as you live in the state of eastern washington, I am not sure if you can get a better deal than the smith deal. I knew a salesman from a dealer in Spokane was beating smiths prices. And when I went shoping for my truck, I found that any of the local dealers would at least meet the price of smith. They do not like to loose the deal to some one else.
