Angry TPMS Frustration..

I have about had my fill of this TPMS stuff. During the summer, its not an issue as I have the tires filled to the higher pressures for towing etc. Now that winter is coming around and won't be towing, I like to drop the rear pressures down for better wear on the tires and traction.

I followed the book procedure by having the key on, adjusting the pressures down to near the set pressures for the rears based on the tag on the door and pressed the TPMS reset button to set and it just flashes at me. Now getting low pressure warning obviously. So I pumped them back up to full pressures again and re-did the bleed down procedure.. Same thing..

Did I miss something? This is driving me nuts..

Every time I read threads like this I am SO glad I kept my 12 valve and didn't buy a new truck. I know the new ones are WAY cool and comfy and all that stuff but at what cost? I just don't trust all the el cheapo electronic parts made in Malaysia or where ever

Sorry for the hijack.... just got me to thinking again and we all know how dangerous that can be

HA! I know.. I just put paint on my 97 last week as I am keeping it forever. This is one item that if it works, could be a lifesaver, but the false alarms make it worthless.

I had my dealer drop the thresh hold pressure down to the lowest they can program it (I believe 25-30 psi). I have no issues at all w/ my "D" rated 35" tires w/ 50 psi max pressure. I have the fronts at 48psi and rears at 38/40psi.. I never had the light come on in the cold.

Once you drop it to the recommended pressure if it doesnt set to light load right away, take if for a quick spin. Then try to set the light load switch.

Ive been hounding MADS for a TPMS work around. Maybe we should all start a mass email....

I'm in. Put that in the options for the ABS section to kick out the TPMS like the 3500's. I like that idea Blake..

I like you do the same thing, I operate my tire pressure at 70 psi for the summer camping season, as we pull the 5er. I then air down to 45 psi and follow the books directions and of course the light blinks and I get that stupid warning also. Since there is no dinging of the bell (don't tell Dodge or there will be a recall) I ignore the light. Black tape works for me.
Please sign me up for the Mads fix too when it is available but then I will need to change my software from Verizon 14 to something later.

So if we both did it by the book Jim, what the heck is the way to get that darn thing to work? I can follow directions easy enough but to have only a flashing lite with no idea why it fails to set just makes me mad. Stupid system IMHO.. My 02 van at least tells me if its low or high..

I have read were some user have gone back to the dealer and have them lower the set point on the TPMS. Such as 20 or 30 PSI to trigger the warning. They then claim not to have an issue with the TPMS warning system.

I will not go back to the dealer since I am not stock and the Chrysler dealer in my area has no clue on Dodge trucks. So I just live with it for 5 months.

I know this is not what you wanted to hear but...

Also we can all say thank you to Ford and Firestone for this wonderful feature. Great Job 1.

Thats the same problem I've got.. No dealer for me as they snoop too much and would blank out my program.

It really doesnt get cold enough here for the ambient to play havoc with the TPMS. If it does trigger it only last for a couple of miles till the tires warm up.

Hate you fellas gotta put up with the headache.

Not really part of this discussion, but thought that I would mention that I have an aftermarket TPMS on my ruck and RV. It will monitor up to 22 tires, but I have it programed for 8. Love it as I tow the RV long distances in the middle of nowhere and it would be really bad news to lose a tire in places like that. Decided to buy it after blowing a tire on the RV in one of those places and did not know it. Needless to say, the shredded tire tore up the side of the RV pretty badly.
