Toyo MT 37/13.50R17 on 2003 48RE 4x4 QC
Hey fellas. I've used the search feature and just needed to be sure about a couple of things before I swipe the plastic. Thanks in advance.
1. I would be using a 10" wide 17" wheel and want to know what lift I'd need to be safe with these big E rated 37s. Ideally I would not want to go as high as 6" but I have no problem doing it if it is absolutely necessary.
2. Which wheel should I use?

The only mod I have is an edge juice which I leave always at level 3.
3. The most I ever tow is a 2000 lb trailer with an S250 Bobcat. Would I need to change to 4.10 gears? Mind you I do haul this up and down fairly steep hills. I do open her up on the pavement quite often and occasionally a little offroading.
Guys, what I'm really looking for here is WIDTH and an overall more aggresive look. Right now I am on BFG 315 70R17 on stock wheels and want something that will stick out as far as or further than my big 3" wide bushwackers.
BTW I'm shopping at wheels for less - is there a place with better deals and does anyone see any problem with the strength of the aforementioned 10" wide wheels?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have been trying to read up on this topic also, as I am getting ready to do lift, wheels, and tires. From what I have been studying, if you want a 37 to fit AND you do not want a 6" lift, the backspacing, rim width, and offset on your wheels is critical. If you want to stay with a 10" wide with a 37" tire, I am not too sure there is anyway to not go with a 6" lift, other than major fender work, or some aftermarket fiberglass front fenders. If you want to fit a 4.5" lift with 37s I think you are going to have to stay at about 8.5" (give or take) with at least a 5"+ backspacing and at the least a +10mm offset.
I am palnning on running a KMC rockstar wheel (black) in a 20x8.5 with a 5.14" BS and a 10mm offset (which are on order, but apparently they are made with unobtainium, which is very hard to find ). I want to run no more than a 4.5" lift, which will probably end up being a skyjacker with some other misc. parts. In the begining I want to run a 35x12.50R20 Toyo M/T, after those wear out I will look at the BFG A/T 37.
I only know what I have been trying to read about this, so hopefully someone with some real world experience will be along and can provide you with more help than I did.

I think you're going to have to run a 6" lift to get the look you want with the wheels sticking out like that. I'm pretty sure those will rub on the 4.5" lift unless you run fiberglass fenders, but I'm not ever certain that will cure any rubbing issues. But to be safe, if I was in your position I'd go with a 6" lift. Good luck!

I agree with ptgarcia, it has been done with less, but especially with the agressive wheels(width, backspacing) I would go with at least the 6". There are a number of good options at that height. hit up a search for "lifts" should be lots of good reading.
