Tow Hooks on a 2006
Ok, my 2006 2500 came with the tow hooks deleted as part of a snow plow prep group. Anyhow, I want to get a set mounted. I have done some searches in here on how to do it and am confident that I can do it myself.
Anyway, I have been trying to buy some on Ebay and most of the listings that I am bidding on are for the hooks and the mounting brackets. I just assumed that you need those mounting brackets for additional strength. There is also several people on there selling only the hooks themselves with the notion that you don't need the mounting bracket.
My question is, for someone with a 2006 with the tow hooks from the factory, does your truck have these mounting brackets installed? I looked up under my truck and the bumper mounting brackets that are connected to the frame extends around the holes provided for the tow hooks. I am just curious if the additional mounting brackets are needed for additional stability.

my tow rings (hooks) attach to two beefy mounting brackets that are then bolted onto the end of the frame.....
when i lift the hood i see the frame ends with the bolt holes....then there are two brackets on each rail of frame.....these then connect to the tow rings.
So I think you will need the whole package by the looks of it...unless your truck already has the brackets.

Thanks Brock, that is what I was thinking. I am not about to put the hooks on with the proper brackets and risk having it yank the bumper off because it wasn't properly attached to the frame.

Hooks
My 2005 had the same thing, no hooks on the heavy duty plow package. The brackets are for the strength needed when putting a load on them. So, I only bought a set that had the brackets as well off eBay. I'm not sure on the 06s, but I had to manipulate my intercooler up and out some on each side to slide the brackets between the bumper brackets. But, once in, it was a piece of cake, and I didn't have to remove the bumper from its brackets. Hope this helps, I know the cosmetics are slightly different.
