Tow Hook Question...

My truck didn't come with tow hooks and I want to install them. I know the kit is available from Mopar, and I have found the hooks and brackets on eBay as well. My question is: Do I need the brackets? I havn't had a chance to look at a truck with hooks installed from the factory. I see just hooks (no brackets) being sold as well. My bumber bracket has four holes which I believe match those of the hooks. Are the brackets just additional for strength as I suspect, or did anyone's truck come with hooks mounted on the bumper brackets from the factory? Maybe someone who has installed them could email me a .pdf of the directions?? I did search some threads before I asked this, but couldn't find my answer.

Seeing some directions would be great. Email is ajpulley@hotmail.com. Just for curiosity, what are you asking for the hooks and brackets?

Do you mean the long thing that the bolt heads are on that I think face inside on the end of the frame rail? And, did you have to use the extra brackets?

I added them to my truck and didnt take long at all. I didnt use a pry bar was a pretty easy install. I think if you ever plan to use them you should have the brackets.

You have to take the bumber off then lossen the intercoller. Then remove the bracket that holds the bumber to the fram rail. You then add brackets to the fram rail bracket and put the hooks on them and then bolt and torque everything back down. Its easier then it sounds and the kit comes with great directions with drawn pictures.

So, let me see if I understand this, the hook brackets go on first, then the bumper bracket goes back on, or the hook brackets go on over the bumper bracket? I should just go buy the kit from Dodge with the directions.

What brackets? I recently removed the tow hooks from my 2005 2500 because I don't like the look and the only pieces which come off are the hooks and the nuts and bolts to attach them.

there are brackets that bolt to the the bumper mounts to reinforce the bumper for the towhooks. they go towhook bracket-bumperbracket-frame-bomperbracket-towhook bracket. I found it easiest to take both of the upper I/C bolts out and lift the I/C up to remove the bolts then drop the I/C back into place(just make sure the lower I/C saddles drop back over the cowl and the rubber isolator are still in place) . I put the bolts in from the other side when I put it back together so I won't have that problem again
