Tires that don't sling rocks

Any of you guys have suggestions for tires that don't throw rocks like the dang Michellins that come standard? I'm so tired of hearing the clank of rocks on the truck it makes me not want to drive the thing for getting dings in the paint. >

Any ideas? Are BFGs as bad? What about Goodyears? I'm not too hip on mudflaps, so I'm going to use that as a last resort.

What about you guys that are running a taller, wider tire? Notice any rubbing problems? I see that some of you are running 315/70's. Any problems rubbing without having to install a leveling kit of some sort? I'd like to step up to a taller tire to kill some of the RPM when I'm in high gear on the interstate. I'd rather be down around 2000-2200 RPM when I'm running 80-85 instead of the 2450-2500 that I usually get. I think a 285/70 would be ok, but I'm not too sure at this point. I just know that I don't want anymore chips in my 2 month old truck. It's annoying to say the least.

All tires which have good traction and have good tread will sling rocks. What you arfe asking for is a Bald Tire, one without tread. : :

Maybe I should go out in front of the house and do a few hundred smokey burnouts and then rotate the tires to make sure they're evenly bald. Maybe this all just a pipe dream. Oh well...

Re:Tires that don't sling rocks

There are winter tires with great traction that depend on sipes instead of heavy tread patterns. Of course, I have no idea in what sizes or ratings they are available.

My BFG's do it too. > I put on some slash gaurds and they seem to have helped a little. I'm sure the BFG's are even worse than yours.

I'm thinking about getting a set of those so I don't have to hear my passengers whine about jumping into, and falling out of the truck.

My BFG's are great rock slingers; and my nerf bars haven't done anything to reduce it. I may run down to the dealer and take a look at the fender liners - maybe they'll keep the noise down?

Re:Tires that don't sling rocks

Actually my BFG's seem to toss the rocks sooner than the Michilens did. At least they dont make as much racket when it flings em. I have the mopar mud flaps that are plain black and a set of maap SS Challenger nerfs on. The Challengers are a flattened oval 5" wide that makes em look like a cross between a running board and a nerf. If your like me and you dont like running boards they are a nice comprimise in terms of ding protection. The mud flaps are pretty unobtrusive in appearance.

Re:Tires that don't sling rocks

Greetings,
I was pretty happy with my BFG Mud terrains on my 95'. Most of the small stuff didn't get caught up in the tread. I do agree that the stock tires do seem to abuse the paint pretty good. I did the nerf bar and mud flap and wheel well liner and that reduced a lot of the noise. Jeff

Crabman, those are the same accessories that I'm getting on mine. I got the splash guards for Xmas from my mother , the side steps are on DC's tab. Good to hear they reduce the dings.

Re:Tires that don't sling rocks

I don't want to use mudflaps either. I'm thinking about getting Line-X to do a color match to my paint and spray the areas that get the abuse by the tires. I have no rubbing problems with the stock ride heighth ( at least 1" clearance even at full lock) and the 315 tires ride and handle very well.

Now that's something that I hadn't thought of. I always thought that rock guard looked horrible on my Grand National, but the tires were also tucked up in the wheel wells and the tread wasn't all that conducive to throwing rocks.

For what it's worth, I've already put the full wheel well liners in the rear. Did that last weekend. Makes for a cleaner appearance in there.

Re:Tires that don't sling rocks

Ziebart has a spray on sound deadening insulation that will deaden the sound of rocks hitting inside the wheel wells and under the truck. Of course it does not affect rocks hitting the outside of your truck.
