Tires

I a looking to put new tires on my rig. I currently have load range D on the rig. I do tow a camper during the summer about 8-9 times during the year. Would you recommend staying with the load D or would you step up to a Load E? I also have been looking at the Mickey Thompson Baja STZ. They make both the D and E rated however the D rated ones are 275/70/17 and the D rated ones are 285/70/17. Will I see much difference in that size?

I'm also looking to purchase new tires for my truck. I'm wanting to replace my existing "D" rated tires w/ "E" rated tires. What is on my truck now (bought it this way) Cooper Discoverer ATR LT285/70R17 load rating D. My spare is an Michelin LTX A/S LT285/70R17 load rating E. I tow two to three times a year my Joey Light (4,285 lbs unloaded). Our future TT will be 7,364 lbs dry weight. I have weights loaded only from my past 2007.5 Ram 2500 4x4 so I don't know if that would be of any help or not. This is my DD mostly to and from work which is mostly highway. What originally can on this truck was 265/70-17's according to Discount Tires online near my house. I'm looking for a good tire for someone who is on a tight budget. Any recommendations would be great! When you give me your recommendations please tell my why you choose that tire in your opinion.

Thanks.

I'd never tow with a D rated tire. After experiencing a near fatal blowout on the freeway with Bridgestone AT's it's been Toyo E-rated ones. No issues, way less tailwag.

Truck in my sig came with BFG Rugged Trails, load range E, LT 265/70/17s. Got 95k miles out of the original set, went back with another as they suit my needs perfectly, e.g. most driving is on pavement and they are quiet unlike some tires with a more aggressive tread.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I put the Nitto Dura Grappler tires on (E rated) in the 285/70/17 and love them. They are quiet and handle great in all weather. Tow awesome too. I have about 30k miles on them ans they still look nearly new. Very even wear on all 4 tires with 10k mile rotations. I will be putting on another set when these wear out.

Mt truck came with LT235/80R17 tires that is what is on the door sticker so I have always installed the recommended size. They are skinny looking suppose that is why the got the name "cookie cutters". I had Cooper Discoverers on the truck and pulled only in summer months our fiver weighs around 13K loaded. Only got 22K out of those tires probably could of got more miles out of them maybe 10K more but don't want the worry of a blowout when towing across country. So I just installed the Toyo Tuff Duty tires. I only have 60 miles on them so we will see how they work. From reviews and other members comments on the Toyos' I should get alot of miles out of them when serviced properly.

Unfortunately I know about zip on tires. You don't by chance have a pic of what 235's look like on a truck do ya? I assume they aren't as wide as my 285's.

I could probably take a picture but would be stumped on how to transfer the picture to this forum. Only way I can think of doing it is to send the pictures to your private e-mail address. Is your truck a dually forgot to look at your signature, sorry.
They are not as wide as the 285's but they will stretch out alittle after break in. One thing about these Toyo Tires is that if you are unsatisfied with them before 500 miles or 45 days you can have them taken off and given your money back. Doesn't matter what tire store you got them from that is the Toyo companies policy. Do a search on those tires and confirm my statement just to be sure.
