Tired of the bouncing....

My back can't take much more of the bouncing on the concret highways. I mean sometimes it can be rather violent.

Seems after about 4-5 hour drives, I am worn out. I used to be able to drive my 99.5 F-250 6-8 hours across country on the highway and not be as "beat up" as i feel in this one.

The tires are aired down to about 50 in the rears.
Is it that the Michelin's ride rough???

The shocks don't seem to be worn out. Plus I don't think anyone makes a aftermarket shock for the 2wd's anyways.

I used to read about velvet rides before, but it seems they don't make them for the 3rd gens.

Anyone out there found a fix for the "bouncy bouncy bouncy"??

Just be glad you don't have a 2nd gen truck, My 02 had 3x's as rough a ride. Even in the 06 some of the concrete highways are just down right ridiculous. Just part of owning a 7k+ truck. If you want a smooth ride you will have to get a half ton of some sort. Just won't achieve what you are looking for out of a 2500

Mine has just about disappeared after installing the KORE Chase syestem and 35" Toyo's. Night and day difference. The SoCal highways can be like whooped out sections of OHV areas, just paved. I got rid of my Super Duty, just because of the nasty ride on the freeways and the speed bumps in parking lots. Your rear overload spring is part of the problem.

Mine doesn't have the overload springs.

I mean it bounces so hard, that you can't even talk on the phone, because it auh.auh.auh.auh.auh.......

I know when I got rid of the Firebombs that came on the superduty and went to pro-comp 33x12.50, the ride was smoother. Probably from it being a taller tire.

Those in So-Cal know the freeways I am talking about....101 at the 23, the entire 118 in Northridge, the 405 by the 101, and so so so many others.

As for a 1500, my friend has 05 2500 and his brother a 05 1500 with a liftgate on it, still does it.......all three of them.

The only thing that has been able to tame is two of friends are 550lbs EACH in the backseat........then it rides like a Caddy

Most of the stock tires from the factory will bounce no matter what the pressure. I tried 40/45/50 all the way up to 85PSI and it bounced no matter the psi.
I ended up putting the KORE system on. I have the front springs, stabalizer blocks, and Bilsteins all around. The next thing that smoothed it out was the TOYO HT tires and I am running them at 75 front and 70 rear. Best tires I have had...I swore by Michelin LTX...these beat them.
Then I added Firestone air bags...for towing. They work well for leveling after the KORE and towing heavy...otherwise I was blinding oncoming traffic and getting lights flashed at me...I had the low beams on.
the air bags reduced the bounce of the trailer too.

I feel like I am riding in an old New Yorker or Caddy towing now.

I think the best solution (and the least expensive ) are air ride seats. Smooths the ride out now !!

What kind of air-ride seat is available?? what is the appx. cost? Seems like that would be a nice option from DC.

Not asking for smooth, just not a bucking bronco.

Where do you get these air seats?

I'm gonna try and help ya on this subject. I too have a bad back due to an accident. I feel your pain!! The only problem is, I just had to un-install and re-install AOL on my computer, and lost all my saved E-mails!! I'm in the process of trying to get them back, than I can find the name of the company, anyway heres what happened....

A few months back, there was a thread on here, and someone said that they made an air ride seat suspension for Fords, and they could be modified to fid a 3rd gen Ram. I wrote to that company and they said they were working on a set up for Rams. The wrote me back the beginning of Jan. and said they have the 3rd gen air ride seat suspension complete for the Ram, and was around $275.00. Now I think you will also have to put some sort of compressor and maybe even a tank for this set-up, but I might be wrong. The guy told me that with this set-up, it would be like a Big Rig, and the seat will just feel like its floating around, and I will really be happy with the ride, especially with my bad back. It will stop the harsh upward motion of the seat hitting you in your butt, and compressing your spine. Theres no solid connection between the seat and truck floor.

All these guys that say, "hey, its a truck, live with it".....Thats B.S. There are multiple ways to improve the rides on these trucks to ride 100 times better than the stock bouncy, choppy ride. It all depends if you want to go with suspension mods, Tires, etc... I improved the ride a good deal, by just putting BFG 285's on my truck.

As soon as I hopefully can retrieve my lost e-mails, I will post the website address up, or unless maybe someone else can chime in. If not, Gonna have to search this site, untill I happen to trip over the original thread.

I know how bad I feel getting out of my truck on a bad day, after only 45 mins of driving, so this air ride seat is sounding like the best bet so far for the price range, and ease of installation.

I would try shocks but that is me. I can't belive it rides worse than a ford. evertime I get in one of my buddies leaf spring fords I thank god I went with the dodge. my truck drives so much nicer than all the fords I have driven. I have not driven the 05 and up though with the new front suspention.

stock shocks always suck.

The thing to remember is that I am talking 2wd, not 4wd.

If anyone knows of a good aftermarket shock for the 2wd........let us know.
