Just bought oem aluminum 17x8 rims and need some advice on going to 285's from the 265's I had on the steel rims. I put a 2" leveling kit on the front and would like a little bigger tire w/0 sacrificing mileage to much. I am considering the nitto t/grapplers up to a 295/70R-17.

I gained 1 1/2 mpg average going from 235/80-17 (drw)to 35x12.50-17 (srw). This was calculated on an identical 1100km (660mile) leg of the same highway.

 

Dont forget to recalibrate your speedo with the new tire size (revolutions per mile) or your mileage calculations will be way off.

 

A little impatient are we? I went from the stock 265's to 285's and didn't see any improvement. I didn't see any loss either.

 

I put on 285 /75 R17s (Toyo AT) a few weeks back. Initial results show an increase in mileage. I haven't quantified it yet but it definitely did NOT go down. These tires are taller than the 295/70R17 and will give you 1" extra under your differential (i.e. 33.8" tires vs OEM 31.6" tire). I believe these are a good compromise for tire friction (due to tire width) and air drag (due to increased truck height).

 

295's killed the mileage on my 05 auto. You 6 speed guys seem to be the ones gainin from taller tires. EGT's will climb too because of the taller ratio now also when towing. Unless you tow at 85.

 

I currently have 265 70r17" on my 2wd truck and was wondering if up to 295's rub or just what ya'll think looks good w/o sacrificing to much economy. I have a superchip prog. so speedo calibration will not be a problem.

 

Mileage is calculated from actual road distance, both trips same speed (after correction).

 

I did not see a change when going from stock to 295 Toyo MT's

 

If you already know this please disregard. I fooled with my SC for about a week before I got it right. I first entered the advertised tire height 35/12.50.17 this will give incorrect mileage and MPG. I finally changed it to the measured height from the ground to the top of the tire and its within .5 miles according to my GPS. Maybe this will save you some headaches.

 

I just put on the 295/70/17 Terra Grapplers with a black 17x9 Moto Metal Wheel today and looks great. Might rub just the slightest bit on the front and rear plastic of the wheel well though. Has just a bit of sidewall pooch but for that's fine. Will post pics maybe tomorrow. I've read that the 06 mega cab and maybe all of them, can't have the speedo recalibrated at Dodge b/c they've made it to only adjust one size up or down from stock size. So I don't know how I'll figure mileage now. I can't afford any kind of recalibration device right now after footing the tire/wheel package. On a different note the tires ride great and are quite too. Time will tell if they last 40k or better, I've read both ways.

Jmac, I called the dealer and was told they can reprogram some. Both of my buddies with 06's were able to have it done. I was going to give them 50 bucks to try. I sent my money to Bob.

 

I'm taking my '06 in on Wednesday to see if they can program for a 285/70/R17 size, which they should since that is the tire size on the Power Wagon. I'll post up if they can't.
