Tire Rotation

Well, today I took on the task of rotating the tires on my rig. Let me just tell you how much fun it was. The back wheels were rusted to the hubs pretty bad. To get them loose, I finally wound up blasting them with some liquid wrench, loosening the lug nuts a bit, and driving it up and down the driveway a few times. They finally came off. At first I tried kicking them, letting the jack down on them, cursing, etc. with no success....lol

Re:Tire Rotation

I rotated and balance the tires on my truck last weekend. Didn't have that kind of problem, wheels came off without much of a hassle. Did find several of the tires out of balance by at least 1 oz.

Re:Tire Rotation

I also rotated my tires for the first time last weekend at 6,500 miles. Tires came right off without a problem.

Re:Tire Rotation

Where are you guys placing the jack and or stands to raise the vehicle for tire rotation?

Re:Tire Rotation

axle tube.

you only have to have 2 "parts" of the truck lifted at a time. chock the other tires and use e-brake.

e.g. lift front left and rear right.

I didn't use the factory bottle jack because it looked pretty pathetic. I used my 3 1/2 ton floor jack. I raised the front end from the center crossmember that runs under the tranny. The rear I lifted from the axle tubes in the section that is reinforced for the shock mounts. It was a pretty easy job once I got the wheels broken loose.

Re:Tire Rotation

No problems here either, except breaking the lug nuts loose the first time. I put anti seize on them when I put them back on. I use a floor jack and a jack stand and follow the tire rotation in the manual. I wanted to include the spare but the wheel is different.

Re:Tire Rotation

FANOFTHEWOLF,

I hate that the spare is different! I've already decided if I get new wheels it'll be five of them. And, of course we can't run different size tires on each side of the rear with the LSD either so a flat means the spare goes on the front if the truck is running bigger tires. I can see myself on some snowy night in the mountains with tires everywhere!
