An hour should be long enough.

Talking Timer for Heater

Go to Lowes Home Improvement if you live in NC or you can order on line. Get the one for 19.99. It is rated 15 amps and has a 24 hour time clock inside a weather proof box. Works with my truck just fine.

I bought one that is rated to 15 amps and has a 24 hour time clock and it works great. I am glad I got it. I think I picked mine up at Home Depot.

I use a system that lets me control the heater with either a timer, or from a remote control from inside the house. The remote control is nice - lets me turn the heater on or off separate from the timer if my schedule is different, like on weekends. Check it out at www.X10.com.

Would you mind telling the exact one you bought, I did some searching on the site, and couldn't find anything specific??

It has been a few years since I bought mine, but make sure you get one that has a three prong outlet.

This is the best one I found searching HomeDepot, Lowes and the local electric supply houses. It's made by Intermatic and is 7 day programmable for 7 different events is you so choose. Lowes had it at the best price (~$30) and I've used it for two seasons without any issues. It is good for 15 amps and has two 3-prong recepts on the bottom next to the power cord.

I bought a 15amp, 3-prong Intermatic at Lowes yesterday for less than $10. It isn't waterproof, like several more expensive models that they had, so it's plugged into an inside outlet with a cord running out to the truck. I set it to come on at 4:30a...pre-heat circuit still came on when I started the truck at 8a...guess it takes more than 3 1/2 hours to warm up the truck enough so that the heat circuit doesn't come on.
24 deg's and windy as **** in W. Pa. this morning.
