Tag on this, I'll have to do mine next year. My truck is stock, so it should pass the opacity test fine.

I can't speak for AZ, or anywhere else but two test stations in CA. The first one I stopped at, he took a look under the hood and said it wouldn't pass because the original air thingy was missing and it had a Grid Delete. He said once I had those back in, to come back. My air "thingy" was replaced awhile back by a CFM+ also.

When I went back the next day, the tech had taken off early for the day so went to another place. Chatted with the tech there and he also said 'original' equipment or equipment with a 'registration number'. Truck passed; $79.
Back to morning brew...

Air intake elbow IS NOT a reason to fail visual. Heater delete IS a reason to fail, straight from the ARB site itself. http://www.autorepair.ca.gov/80_BARR...%2012-2009.pdf

Unless you have a lot of smoke, I would not worry about it. I've had my Passat (yes, it's a diesel) tested twice. It's lighty modded and smokes, extremely little. For the '96, it needs a cat and pass opacity <20%. Mine passed at 1.3%

Had the emissions test done Monday. All they do is stick a sensor in the tail piper and have the drive rev it up 3 times. Passed with flying colors Test took about 5 min. Went to the one on Deer Valley Rd.
